There's a slight possibility that this post may inspire a bit of deja vu for you, on the odd chance that you happened to have been reading The Rock Father back on March 12, 2012. It was then, while nursing a brief back injury (cue PANTERA's I'm Broken), that I sat down on a Friday night to discuss a then-24 year old movie, 1988's Penny Marshall-directed classic, BIG. The timing just worked out right at the time, and somehow BIG became the first live-action movie to really hold Addie's attention after I found it "On-Demand," despite already owning the DVD. BIG is one of those movies that I've owned over and over again, having first bought it on VHS, then on DVD, and now on 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray thanks to the folks at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Just as METALLICA "Re-Revisited" their "Garage Days," I'm "Re-Revisiting" my look back on BIG. Through the eyes of a parent... who was once a kid... and still acts like one on regular occasions.

After issuing MY LITTLE PONY: A VERY MINTY CHRISTMAS as part of their "classics" collection this holiday season (check out some thoughts right here), the folks at Shout! Factory Kids in association with Hasbro Studios have announced a January 21, 2014 release date for the MY LITTLE PONY: CLASSIC MOVIE COLLECTION (pre-order here), a new 2-DVD set featuring 180 minutes of MLP goodness including four feature length movies: Princess Promenade, Runaway Rainbow, Dancing In The Clouds, and Friends Are Never Far Away. Check out the details below...

Sprout Kindness CrewSprout's Kindness Counts initiative has logged nearly 600,000 acts of kindness from children across the country as they continue moving toward their goal of 1 million kind deeds performed by Sproutlets. Meant to "encourage and celebrate everyday thoughtful acts while serving as a tool for parents to reinforce kindness and compassion," Kindness Counts actions are featured each morning on Sprout during THE SUNNY SIDE UP SHOW and with Good Egg Awards. Now, Sprout is nearing the announcement of their first-ever "Chief Kindness Officer," an exceptional preschooler whose kind acts have put them in the running through The Kindest Kid Contest sponsored by ABCmouse.com. Voting is open now, and for each vote received, Sprout will donate $1 up to $25,000 to a national children’s charity, as well as an additional $5,000 in the winner’s name! Check out the finalists below...

PBS KIDS VIP BloggerHey neighbors! I have some Grr-ific news this morning from PBS KIDS. On February 25, 2014, PBS Distribution will release DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Daniel’s Big Feelingsand DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Life’s Little Lessons” for the first time on DVD. Disney's PLANES (Blu-ray Review)

Written by

PLANESWhen Disney sent us a copy of their movie PLANES on Blu-ray, the whole family was excited since this was a situation where we've actually had many of the toys from Mattel for several months (I previously did a big feature on them here), but we hadn't yet seen the movie (theater-going is a new thing for my oldest, and FROZEN will be her first big-screen Disney experience). Being big fans of Disney•Pixar's CARS, seeing "The World above CARS" was something we'd been eagerly-awaiting since it was teased in the short film AIR MATER on the CARS 2 Blu-ray.

On December 17, Shout! Factory Kids in association with Hasbro Studios will release LITTLEST PET SHOP - LIGHTS, CAMERA, FASHION! on DVD. This new collection features five episodes of the popular series on The Hub, all featuring Pet Shop owner Blythe and her animal friends - Zoe the spaniel, Pepper the skunk, Sunil the mongoose, Russell the hedgehog, Penny the panda, Vinnie the gecko and Minka the monkey. The DVD is available now for pre-order via my affiliate, Walmart, complete with a bonus trading card and Zoe toy.

There's a lot of activity in The Magic Kingdom (as if it every really slows down), and today I present to you another Disney Roundup here on The Rock Father. There's quick updates involving PLANES, JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES, FROZEN, THE LITTLE MERMAID, and more.

After being teased in trailers on recent Disney Blu-ray releases for a bit now, it's official - THE JUNGLE BOOK: DIAMOND EDITION will be swinging onto Blu-ray, DVD, and HD Digital on February 11, 2014. Check out the specs below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

With running this website, being extremely active on social networks, and making a large part of my living from "new media" over course of the past decade, it often surprises people when they learn that I'm not big on tech for kids. Yes, I share news on the latest Apps and App-enabled toys, but I do that for the majority - the folks that are into that sort of thing, a large portion of my friends and readers. While I won't rule it out for the future, I do not own an iPad, nor do I own a tablet of any kind. While my little ones do, on rare occasion, get to check out an App or video on one of our Windows Phones, I'm not into giving them a "device" or "screen" to occupy their time, and would prefer them to embrace imaginative play, spending time outside whenever they can. I've spoken a bit about this before, and now comes a movie that hits me right in the sweet spot: PROJECT WILD THING. It's a British film created by a Dad - a film that encourages families to swap some "screen time" for some "wild time" - time spent outdoors. Watch the trailer and learn more below...

FREE BIRDS - The Rock Father Review

Written by

In the interest of full-disclosure, it's my duty to inform you that I received my passes to check out FREE BIRDS from my friends over at CHUCK E. CHEESE'S. While they have a marketing partnership with Relativity Media (the studio behind the film), you really can't blame Chuck and the gang for how their product placement actually appeared in the final film. In fact, while I've seen many jump to discussing some vast pizza conspiracy - after all, this is a movie about time-travelling turkeys seeking to have turkey replaced with pizza on the Thanksgiving menu - I have a feeling that Relativity was actively seeking a pizza partner, and when they locked one in, it was those logos that got slapped upon a few empty boxes - creating what's actually an interesting inaccuracy, but one that's pretty much irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. It's a movie about turkeys... for kids, and the kids that we took sure seemed to enjoy it.

On November 12, DreamWorks Animation's TURBO will speed onto Blu-Ray and DVD just in-time for the holidays. It's a great gift idea (perfect stocking stuffer), and to celebrate the release, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and The Rock Father are getting one lucky reader hooked up with a copy of the brand-new Blu-ray. But first, let's start with some fun facts about snails...
