Halloween Specials have been a highlight of the Fall television season for as long as I can remember. I think this year has been light on that note, but the folks at DreamWorks Animation have two new titles out this Fall that feature some familiar characters with some new adventures. To celebrate the release of MONSTERS VS. ALIENS: CLONING AROUND and KUNG-FU PANDA: SCORPION STING, DreamWorks and The Rock Father are getting one lucky reader hooked up with DVDs of each, while sharing some thoughts on the Top DreamWorks characters for the season.
When Fall arrives, one of the first things we always look forward to is new Halloween specials and video releases. While 2013 feels like a really light year on that note, one new collection that's a must-have for little ones is THE HALLOWEEN COLLECTION: Volume 2, from the excellent, and ever-expanding Scholastic Storybook Treasures line from Weston Woods/Cinedigm/New Kideo. This 3-Disc DVD Box set features 14 classic tales ripe for the halloween season, and manages to encourage learning along with bringing the not-so-scary frights.
Next year, Disney XD will begin airing their new original animated series, STAR WARS REBELS. Announced this past May (and covered on The Rock Father, here), the series takes place in the roughly 20-year gap between STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH and STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE... in other words, an era where an Old Trilogy guy like myself could see some familiar characters out and about. The first teaser is online, and it's just that - a teaser. Watch all 15-seconds of it below...
Today is the day... after months of waiting, PEG + CAT will make it's debut on PBS KIDS (check your local listings for times)! The latest offering from The Fred Rogers Company seeks to bring young viewers a new way to experience math through Peg and Cat’s relatable, and often hilarious, adventures. Each PEG + CAT episode features original songs and fascinating stories in which Peg and Cat encounter a problem that requires them to use math and problem-solving skills in order to move forward. To bring the experience beyond the television, PBS KIDS has launched several interactive PEG + CAT features, including the rockin' PEG + CAT BIG GIG APP, 11 online games, and numerous offline activities. I've got details on all of them, right here on The Rock Father!
This coming Tuesday (October 8), Shout! We're really excited about this. On November 19, Disney's PLANES is coming home on Blu-Ray and DVD. We've already had a great time visiting Propwash Junction and staging our own "Wings Across the World" race here at Rock Father HQ (check out our adventure here), and now we'll be able to watch the adventures of Dusty Crophopper and the gang whenever we'd like. Check out an 8-minute extended preview of Disney's PLANES below, along with full details on the home release...
Earlier this month, the residents of SESAME STREET kicked off their 44th season on PBS KIDS, welcoming a new neighbor to the 'Street with the addition of 'Mando (who I met and did a video with - along with Rosita - earlier this year). This week, some familiar faces stopped by LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON, where they joined Fallon and The Roots to perform a new version of the iconic "Sesame Street" Theme Song... with classroom instruments. Watch the video below to see just how hard BIG BIRD, MR. SNUFFLEUPAGUS, COUNT VON COUNT, ELMO, ABBY CADABBY, GROVER, MURRAY, GROVER, ZOE, and COOKIE MONSTER rock out with the LATE NIGHT crew. It's probably the best thing you'll see all week.
This weekend, the family movie season gets started in a big way, with the release of CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2. To usher in the Fall Cinema Season, my friends at MovieTickets.com have teamed up with The Rock Father to get one lucky reader and their family hooked-up with $50 in free movie tickets and a copy of the CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2 Soundtrack. It's a prize pack that would make for a perfect family night at the movies... but if you want to have a "Grownups Night Out" to catch METALLICA: THROUGH THE NEVER, I wouldn't hold that against you.
On October 1, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring DreamWorks Animation's THE CROODS home on Blu-Ray and DVD. To celebrate the release of this new tale of a Father's love for his Daughter, 20th Century Fox and The Rock Father are giving readers a chance to win a limited-edtion Blu-Ray, complete with a Plush Toy of Belt, the lovable sloth from the film. Additionally, we'll take a quick look at some other cinematic Dads and Daughters below...
