THE WHIRLYGIGS are is a one-man band, perhaps the first one-man affair that I've covered here on THE ROCK FATHER. With MR. WHIRLY performing up to four instruments at one time (but only having two arms), the man pulls of the band on his debut album, GREETINGS FROM CLOUD 9 (Amazon, iTunes, Bandcamp), but the big challenge now is getting it in front of a wide audience, and as such - Whirly is offering a FREE DOWNLOAD of the new track, "Lookin' Out the Window." STORY LAURIE always hits me with things that could easily be filed under both "Family Music" and "Gardening" here on THE ROCK FATHER, as the New York-based Kindie artist has a habit of combining the two. For today, though, I'll put this one in the music category, as she's serving up a FREE DOWNLOAD of her new song, "Who Grew My Soup?" It's all in celebration of Earth Day (April 22) and the upcoming Farm to Cafeteria Conference (April 16-18, Austin, TX) at which Laurie will be a featured presenter- working with conference-goers to write a song on-the-fly. Watch: DOG ON FLEAS - "I Must Be A Genius"

Next Tuesday, prolific kindie producer/multi-instrumentalist DEAN JONES and his band DOG ON FLEAS will release their latest album, BUY ONE GET ONE FLEA (pre-order on Amazon). The new record serves up 14 new tracks, with Jones and the gang stripping things back to basics, so much that he promises "the only electric things on this album are the bass guitar, and a wicked theremin solo." For an early taste, today comes the debut of "I Must Be A Genius," the first video spawned from the new album. Check out the new clip below...

On May 14, family music superstar DEAN JONES will release his much-anticipated solo album, WHEN THE WORLD WAS NEW. The mastermind behind DOG ON FLEAS, Jones is currently experiencing a banner year, having produced THE OKEE DOKEE BROTHERS' recent GRAMMY winner, CAN YOU CANOE? along with albums from RECESS MONKEY, ELIZABETH MITCHELL, JOANIE LEEDS and more. On WHEN THE WORLD WAS NEW, the go-to Kindie Rock producer and guest musician steps into the spotlight, and to celebrate it's release, THE ROCK FATHER is getting one grownup hooked up with a copy of the new record and DOG ON FLEAS' recent INVISIBLE FRIENDS to share with their children!

DEAN JONES is everywhere these days. The DOG ON FLEAS mainman has become what I've likened to "the 1990s Puff Daddy of the family music scene - all up on everyone's albums and/or tracks." He's either prolific, or just a workaholic - having produced THE OKEE DOKEE BROTHERS' recent GRAMMY winner, CAN YOU CANOE? along with albums from RECESS MONKEY, ELIZABETH MITCHELL, and more in the pipeline (like the new JOANIE LEEDS album). Somewhere in between, Jones found time to record a solo album entitled WHEN THE WORLD WAS NEW, and on May 14th it will be unleashed upon the masses.

The Fifth Annual Kindiefest will be taking place in Brooklyn next month (April 26-28), for the first time happening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), who will be co-presenting the Family Music Conference and Festival in their brand-new, state-of-the-art music venue - The BAM Fisher (321 Ashland Place, Brooklyn, NY 11217). As always, Kindiefest will combine an industry networking conference with a public fest in which kids and grownups alike can sample some great music.
