Each year, it seems that there's a "new" collection of Frank Sinatra holiday music, and for 2017 that tradition continues with ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS, a new compilation from Frank Sinatra Enterprises and Capitol/UMe. Ultimate Christmas features 20 festive and warm holiday classics from Sinatra's Capitol and Reprise catalogs. The new collection also honors the Sinatra Family's holiday traditions with Frank joined by his children, Nancy, Tina and Frank Jr., on three songs. Ultimate Christmas is available now for preorder in CD, digital, and 180-gram 2LP black vinyl editions, as well as a limited 2LP white vinyl edition exclusively offered for preorder on the Sinatra Store and UDiscover Music. The album arrives on October 6.

If you're into music history like me, a must-see for this year needs to be THE WRECKING CREW. Just-released on Blu-ray by Magnolia Pictures, Denny Tedesco's documentary was inspired by his father, Tommy - a member of the legendary, yet largely unknown musicians known as The Wrecking Crew - the true performers behind some of the biggest hits of the 60s and 70s. In fact, the sheer volume of famous tunes that this crew contributed to is in large part the reason that this film (which started loose production back in 1996) took so long to get a proper release - the music licensing fees were expensive.  After some limited screenings, Tedesco raised funds via Kickstarter to get the licensing wrapped, and now it's available to the masses. The folks at Magnolia Pictures recently provided me with a couple of copies on Blu-ray, and one of those could soon be yours...

On June 16, the acclaimed documentary, THE WRECKING CREW comes home on DVD and Blu-ray from Magnolia Pictures. If you've ever listened to a hit record of the 1960s - then this film should strike your interest - the true story about the talented session players that were heard on some of the biggest records of the era. From THE BEACH BOYS to THE MONKEES, FRANK SINATRA to NAT KING COLE, SONNY AND CHER to THE THE BYRDS and beyond, these are the players who made the hits, and many audiences never knew of their existence until now. TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE ROCK STAR has expanded their pop music lullaby line to 59 albums with the release THE RAT PACK-inspired LULLABY VERSIONS OF FRANK SINATRA, DEAN MARTIN, and SAMMY DAVIS JR. Being a big fan of all-things Rat Pack (at last count there were at least seven photos of the gang on my office walls) and having a newborn set for arrival this summer, this one has my interest. Check out the Lullaby version of the Theme from New York, New York, below - along with the full tracklisting.

sinatracoversWhat a shame. A concept with vast potential is met with poor execution to equal a sonic travesty...

When I first mentioned back in January that there was a metal tribute to FRANK SINATRA on the way, I said I'm not quite sure how I feel about this - curious, worried, or excited. When we previewed the first three tracks a few weeks ago, I was fairly confident that my answer was disgusted. Now, with the release of SIN-ATRA (out today via Eagle Rock), that feeling has been amended to be disgusted and angry.
