I gotta say - I wasn't sure if I should file this one under "Toys & Games" or "Family Music," and the reason is that it's both. On the surface we have an announcement that Baconstein is coming - a "plush posable action figure" that will become available this Friday. But then we have the fact that Baconstein is the nemesis of Gustafer Yellowgold, who has a new record coming out... also this Friday. Check out a commercial for this delicious-looking figure below...

We're big fans of GUSTAFER YELLOWGOLD around these parts, Morgan Taylor's little sun-spawned creation having been mentioned in no less than 16 articles here on the site, over the years, and his YEAR IN THE DAY reviewed on THE ROCK FATHER way back in 2012 (two years seems pretty long these days) and being awarded a perfect 5-star review. On September 23, the follow-up arrives with the release of GUSTAFER YELLOWGOLD'S WISDOM TOOTH OF WISDOM, the next installment of the award-winning "Musical Moving Book" series of DVD/CD combos. Check out an extended, nearly four-minute trailer below...

GUSTAFER YELLOWGOLD is fantastic... arguably the most notable resident of The Sun ever to crash-land and settle in Minnesota. While his musical exploits are legendary, well-documented on albums and in videos, he's now making an appearance in an App: colAR Mix for iOS and Android. Now, I'm a bit App'd-out, as I'm not big on Apps for kids in general (I don't even own a tablet) and when it comes to coloring... let's just give the kids some crayons and paper. Luckily, the colAR App blends reality and tech by having parents download printable coloring sheets that are created in real-life, but when you point your device at them... they come to life on-screen. And Mr. Yellowgold looks something like this...

Joanie Leeds - BANDWAGONNew York-based JOANIE LEEDS has been busy. In the past thirty days, the singer/songwriter and her band, THE NIGHTLIGHTS, have released a new album, and fourteen music videos to support it. That album, BANDWAGON, has been in regular rotation here at Rock Father HQ for a bit now, a fun, fifteen-song collection of tunes perfect for summer - or a summer road trip with the kids. And I have used it on the road.

While the release date might not be until August 6, I will say this about BLINK OF AN EYE, the forthcoming new album from FRANCES ENGLAND: It's good. This collection of acoustic-pop songs truly stands out among the multitude of "family" albums that are really just good music. Produced by recent Grammy Winner, Dean Jones (Almost Everything this Year), BLINK OF AN EYE features guest appearances by Caspar Babypants, Elizabeth Mitchell, Molly Ledford (Lunch Money), and Morgan Taylor (Gustafer Yellowgold). Get your first taste via the just-released album trailer below...

JOANIE LEEDS is putting me in a weird spot. On June 25th, she'll be releasing the latest album with her band, THE NIGHTLIGHTS, when BANDWAGON hits retail. The problem is that Ms. Leeds has decided to release 14 music videos this month - one every other day - leading up to the release of the album. What that means is that I'll have to pick and choose which ones to feature here on The Rock Father... though it's possible I might feature them all in one post at the end. In the meantime, check out the first video, "I Love NY"... then keep your browser tuned to Joanie's Facebook Page for the "Joanie Takes June" video explosion...
