Rock Father readers in the New York City area might want to mark their calendars for June 9. The folks at the monthly Hip Tot Music Festival have announced their final show of the season, with SLAVIC SOUL PARTY set to bring their mix of "throbbing funk grooves, fiery Balkan brass, Gypsy accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops" to families as they take the stage in support of the Community Roots Charter School, a public school in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
I'm not sure anyone is 100% sure how to get to SESAME STREET from Brooklyn (I believe it's somewhere in Manhattan), but one man who could probably supply some directions is Bob McGrath - THE "Bob" - who just began his 43rd season on the popular PBS Kids show. A "Rock Father" himself with five children, McGrath has released numerous children's albums, a a seasonally-appropriate CHRISTMAS SING ALONG. On December 9, he'll be appearing at the monthly HIP TOT MUSIC FEST, where he'll be joined by Jeremy Plays Guitar and his Rock-ucation Band. Jeremy Plays Guitar is the official band of Rock-ucation, Inc. where music is not only educational, it ROCKS!
Whether you want to call it a "Hurricane" or a "Superstorm," the weather event known as "Sandy" left a path of destruction that is beyond belief. One of the many areas facing massive clean-up is the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, and on November 11, the Hip Tot Music Festival will host a Famiyl Fundraiser to benefit the Red Hook Initiative for Sandy Relief Efforts. Music will be by The Itty Biddies.
For our friends in NYC, Brooklyn is getting another family-friendly music festival as the HIP TOT MUSIC FEST will be taking place on the Second Sunday of every month, beginning July 8th. Sponsored by Plum Organics (my toddler loves their stuff), the fest will take place at Littlefield in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn.
