It's going to be a massive summer on Disney Junior, with the preschool network set to debut one new episode of one of its hit series every weekday for seven-consecutive weeks from Monday, June 29 through Thursday, August 13th as part of the SOARING OVER SUMMER multi-platform event. New episodes of alternating series SOFIA THE FIRST, DOC McSTUFFINS, MILES FROM TOMORROWLAND, JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES and HENRY HUGGLEMONSTER will premiere each weekday at 9:00 a.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel and 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Junior. Also premiering this summer is CAPTAIN JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES: THE GREAT NEVER SEA CONQUEST, an all-new special 44-minute episode that leads to an exciting story arc where Jake becomes a Captain, kicking off a storyline which will carry into the upcoming fourth season of the series. The folks at Disney Junior have provided THE ROCK FATHER with an EXCLUSIVE FIRST-LOOK IMAGE of "Captain Jake" from the new special!
On my visits to The Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios, I've noticed the life-sized FIX IT FELIX JR. machines (perhaps the same machine) in two different locations. Built to promote the release of WRECK-IT RALPH back in 2012, the FIX IT FELIX JR. games are based largely upon DONKEY KONG JR., and present a true throwback to classic arcade gaming. The girls and I recently made a Papercraft FIX IT FELIX JR. machine using printer paper and a template found on DeviantArt (an alternate plan exists on Disney's official site). The end result is a little sloppy, but it's perfectly-scaled for 3 ¾" action figures, and inspired this photo. "Meanwhile at The Walt Disney Studios Offices..."
When I last wrote about our adventures in Potty Training, I may have mistakenly felt that we were nearing the end of the line. Four months later, and I got the call to work on another sponsored campaign with Pull-Ups®, sharing a few more words about how it's all going. Bottom line, Little Finley is doing good, but it still feels like we're really, really close to being done. Following along as a full-fledged member of the Pull-Ups® Big Kid Academy, we've got tools to help with progress and rewards, while Finn can take things at her own pace. She's soooo close, and she really makes us proud when she "holds it" and stays dry through the night or through a long car ride. While there's dozens of different Potty Training methods out there, using Pull-Ups® training pants from the start can help kids build confidence and independence - they're not a diaper, but more like Big Kid undies (almost). If you're ready to give Pull-Ups® a try, I've even got a Big Kid Deal for you to spread a little savings - Rock Father style!
Aside from an official premiere or festival screening, it's always a sort of weird thing to watch a movie while sitting in the same room with one of it's stars - unless you're a part of the production. It's also a weird thing to show an audience something that you've worked on when it hasn't already been released - as you don't know whether they're going to like it or not, and there's a certain level of anxiety that can come with that as you screen something that you've already seen dozens of times, paying attention to the body language of those in the room around you. Having been in both situations personally, I can tell you that if Leigh-Allyn Baker was experiencing any anxiety, it really didn't show as the Executive Producer and star of BAD HAIR DAY screened her new film for a family-focused press group just days ahead of it's television premiere on the Disney Channel. What followed was a discussion on parenting, career and taking the reigns to help shape your own path... and of course, BAD HAIR DAY, too.
Growing up, I don't remember there being much love for pirates. In fact, as an 80s kid, the only real "pirate" memory that sticks in my head is One Eyed Willy and his fantastic ship in THE GOONIES (which turns 30 this year), and one of the major reasons why is that most pirates were sorta a-holes, and Captain James Hook was the poster boy. Weird thing is, back then the "talk" of Hook was bigger than the character, as we'd only seen PETER PAN during a theatrical re-release in 1982. Fast-forward a few decades and pirates are everywhere, and as new generations have had instant access to older films, there's a really cool vibe that surrounds JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES as an educational, yet fun series that manages to seamlessly bridge the classic and the modern. While Captain Hook might be a little toned-down from his earlier, more sinister days, he's still an a-hole, and that's the driving force behind the recent BATTLE FOR THE BOOK, which premiered last Fall on Disney Junior and is now out on DVD.
This month, Disney Junior's JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES: BATTLE FOR THE BOOK comes home on DVD, complete with an exclusive checkerboard bandana and gold coins (doubloons!) that you can't find anywhere else! To celebrate the release, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and THE ROCK FATHER have teamed-up to get one lucky reader set-up with a rockin' prize pack that includes the new DVD along with some special goodies from our friends at the Disney Store - A Figurine Playset, a Cannon Popper and a Skully Mini Plush! Are you ready to set sail for a fantastic voyage?
