This is one of those things that occasionally gets my wheels turning... the though of throwing my hat into the ring, this coming from a sometimes director of music videos. Today comes the opportunity to helm a video for an icon - Sir Elton John - an artist whose catalog includes iconic songs that were released long before the video era really took hold. "Bennie and the Jets," "Rocket Man" and "Tiny Dancer" have never had an official music video, but now, in partnership with YouTube and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the songwriting partnership between Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Elton John: The Cut will give three filmmakers to opportunity to create the official videos for those three songs. Check out the video playlist below for the announcement and details.
As a parent, my gauge of pop music has changed a little bit - largely impacted by The Rock Daughters' reaction to a new song. A few years back, Icona Pop hit that "kid radar" (and pretty much everyone else's) with "I Love It," a song that I distinctly recall a few preschoolers singing while swinging on the playground in the past. While they're new single, "Brightside," may not quite reach that same kid-crossover level of success, the new video just hit my inbox, and it comes ahead of a major performance on the horizon for the duo...

Despite all the cute photos I tend to post of The Rock Daughters™ and our family, my wife and I deal with cranky, angry kids at multiple points within each and every day. I like to say "Grumpelstiltskin" (which the girls hate), which is even more amusing since the Sugar Free Allstars just released a song and video with some similar thinking. Check out "Grumpopotamus (and the Crankosaurus Rex)" below for a serious kid-friendly funk jam!
There's a few artists that I can count on to do no wrong, and Brian Setzer is among them. No matter what the configuration of the band, Setzer delivers, whether it be studio albums, live performances, or the many live albums and Blu-ray releases that have captured those tours for more to enjoy. On February 18, Setzer's ROCKABILLY RIOT! was captured on film for the first time at Namba Hatch in Osaka, Japan, a performance that encompasses songs from Setzer's acclaimed 2014 studio album Rockabilly Riot! All Original, alongside classic hits from his Stray Cats days, Brian Setzer Orchestra tunes and tracks from his solo albums. Today comes a performance clip via Rolling Stone in which Setzer and his band--Noah Levy (Drums), Kevin McKendree (Piano and Guitar) and Mark Winchester (Bass)--are tearing it up on the Stray Cats classic, "Rumble In Brighton." Check that out, along with "Drive Like Lightning (Crash Like Thunder)" below, and look for BRIAN SETZER'S ROCKABILLY RIOT: OSAKA ROCKA! - LIVE IN JAPAN when it hits Blu-ray, DVD and CD on November 4 via Surfdog Records.
