At the end of J.J. Abrams' 2015 film, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, the world witnessed the return of a Jedi Master... Luke Skywalker. Stoic and silent, the film ended on what Mark Hamill calls "a literal cliffhanger," and on December 15, audiences will see the story pick up right where we left off when Rian Johnson's STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI hits screens. This story has nothing to do with either of those films, but much to do it has with the return of another Jedi Master... Yoda. Last seen on the big screen in 1983's RETURN OF THE JEDI, it is of course possible that the little muppet may return for THE LAST JEDI (spoiler?), but it's Recess Monkey's Jack Forman that has brought him back first. Listeners to Sirius XM's Kids Place Live have been loving "Yodeling Yoda," and now we have a music video to go with it. Wampas? FX-7 Medical Droid? Vintage action figures from the Kenner Star Wars collection? Oh yes, they're all here, right alongside Forman as he does his best to train in the swamps of Dagobah... or somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Listen and watch, you will!
You might know him as the bassist for Seattle's GRAMMY-nominated Recess Monkey, or perhaps as the host of "Live From the Monkey House" on SiriusXM's Kids Place Live. Now, Jack Forman is stepping out on his own with "Songs from the Monkey House," his first-ever solo album, available as an Amazon Original on September 29, 2017. Featuring a dozen songs that families will love (there's one that Star Wars fans are really gonna dig), today THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine is hosting the world premiere of the lead-off track, "Dog Park" - a song written and performed from the perspective of a canine. Crank it up!
Card player. Gambler. Scoundrel. No matter what you call Lando Calrissian, chances are you'd like him! From his first appearance in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK in 1980, Calrissian has become Billy Dee Williams' signature character, returning to pilot the Millennium Falcon and help destroy the second Death Star in RETURN OF THE JEDI, and most recently he's been making appearances on Disney XD's STAR WARS REBELS. For today's entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar, it's the classic Kenner STAR WARS Lando Calrissian from 1980 that's featured as we continue our look back at nearly 40 years of STAR WARS toys en route to the September 4 debut of the new toys from J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Today is a little bit different, though, as it's a "Special Edition" entry that features a brand-new single from GRAMMY-nominated Seattle Kindie Rockers RECESS MONKEY - and a few words about STAR WARS between myself and the band's own Jack Forman, whom you might know from Kids Place Live on SiriusXM. Stream "Oh, Lando" below... punch it, Chewie!
THE ROCK FATHER is sharing #TheIndisposables in his life as part of a Schick® Xtreme3® sponsored series for Socialstars. Horns up! \m/ \m/
Ah, the summer months... a time for adventure, excitement, and of course, The Indisposables - those essential items that just help to make things better. For 2015, I'm highlighting just five new indisposable essentials that can be considered to be certified "Rock Father-approved" picks. If you're a regular reader, there's actually a good chance that these have already crossed your browser in a more subtle form as they've already become a part of our daily routine, and hopefully they'll soon be a part of yours as well!
"We really wanted the story to stand alone - not to rely on the music, or simply feel like a music video," explains RECESS MONKEY Bassist/Vocalist Jack Forman about "Lighter Than Air," which follows "Penguinese" as the latest video from their forthcoming new album, HOT AIR. Forman, who co-wrote the single with bandmates Drew Holloway (Guitar/Vocals) and Korum Bischoff (Drums) also took the reigns on animation and editing for the video, which we're debuting today here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. The clip will be included when the album hits the streets on June 16 as a CD/DVD Combo. "While the songs inspired story elements to some degree, we really treated them more like underscoring," he adds, noting that "the big challenge was to create something that was both 'peppy' but also celebrated meandering - [since] so much of the progression is what happens when Andrew and the Penguin are aimless and open to making discoveries." Check out the video below!
Just in time for World Penguin Day (April 25), Seattle's prolific purveyors of perfectly pop! Kindie rock are serving-up "Penguinese." Yes, RECESS MONKEY have returned, and they'll be unleashing their latest album, HOT AIR (pre-order on Amazon) on June 16, 2015. In the meantime, "Penguinese" is the funky new single (available on iTunes) that focuses on a “new kid in school" -- a penguin searching for acceptance. Band leader Jack Forman (of SiriusXM's Kids Place Live) created the produced the 3D animation-live action video, which features vocalist/guitarist Drew Holloway and a penguin. Take a peek, and read-on for the tracklisting and cover art for HOT AIR, which includes something for the STAR WARS fans...
