Like many, I came into loving FAITH NO MORE (my favorite band of all-time) upon the release of 1989's THE REAL THING (I was not quite 13 at the time), not knowing at the time that prior to the addition of vocalist Mike Patton, there was a whole different era in which the band released two albums fronted by the very-different-sounding Chuck Mosley. Those albums, 1987's INTRODUCE YOURSELF and 1985's WE CARE A LOT were like doors into an alternate universe for me, albums that were surprising in their rawness, yet both fantastic, each in their own way. This Friday, WE CARE A LOT gets reissued as a "Deluxe Band Edition" via Bill Gould's Kool Arrow Records (check out special band-direct packages here), and there's listening parties in select cities, along with something unexpected - a pair of just-announced shows with Chuck Mosley fronting FNM again, August 18 at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, followed by August 20 at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. Check out the announcement video below, along with a stream of the remastered "We Care A Lot" that debuted on the Wall Street Journal earlier this week...

It should be no secret to readers of this site or those who know me well that FAITH NO MORE are my favorite band of all-time. If not for them, this site probably wouldn't exist (story here) - their presence felt daily (even my ringtone is "Absolute Zero"). The past few years have been a great time to be a FNM fan. They reactivated in 2009, released a new record in 2015, reissued Deluxe Editions of 1989's THE REAL THING and 1992's ANGEL DUST, and I was able to see them twice here in Chicago last year. Now comes news that following the August 19th "Deluxe Band Edition" of 1985's WE CARE A LOT being issued through Bill Gould's Kool Arrow Records, Rhino will issue Deluxe Editions of 1995's KING FOR A DAY... FOOL FOR A LIFETIME and 1997's ALBUM OF THE YEAR, each remastered and packed with bonus material. Available on September 9 and up for pre-order now, you can see the tracklistings below...

I'd forgotten that it was just over 20 years ago that I purchased SOUNDGARDEN's 1996 LP, DOWN ON THE UPSIDE, but tonight a press release hit my inbox to remind me - complete with news that the Grammy Award-winning Seattle rockers will soon release a 20th Anniversary Vinyl Reissue, alongside a fresh pressing of their 1989 album, LOUDER THAN LOVE. Check out the details below...

The summer of 1996 was a strange time in my life... I was about six months into my return to Chicagoland after a four-year stint living in Iowa, performing in a band that was now long-distance, working a not-great job, and just about 12 months away from my first date with the woman whom I married to today. You remember things by the soundtrack, an part of my soundtrack that year was HOT, the breakthrough album by the SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS. On the CD shelves in my office here at Rock Father HQ, I still have my original copy of that album, along with some that followed, including PERENNIAL FAVORITES and CHRISTMAS CARAVAN (a modern Xmas classic). The "20th Anniversary Reissue" is a phenomenon that always serves to make me feel a tad more vintage, and that's what happened last night when the folks at Disney hit my inbox with news that HOT was getting the treatment, re-mastered with a bonus track called "The Puffer," and back on 180-gram vinyl for the first time in a long time. My interest was piqued, particularly by the vinyl - though I have to say I'm not as keen on the touring news that was also included in the email.

...And I was just thinking about how there haven't been any truly "deluxe" METALLICA reissues, but that changes just in-time for Record Store Day.

Metallica have announced that they will reissue their first two albums Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning on April 15th, 2016  Both albums have been remastered for the most advanced sound quality and will be available in three formats - CD, vinyl, and Deluxe Box set. Both Deluxe Box sets include original source material from the band's personal collection with many never before heard OR seen recordings, along with a book including rare photos and essays from those who were there.
