When the UK-produced POPPY CAT first arrived Stateside via Sprout in 2011, we were just two years into our parenting adventure, and only months away from beginning round two. Now, ahead of it's second season premiere, my girls are two and five - the perfect ages to enjoy the series which celebrates something that I mention often here on THE ROCK FATHER: imaginative play.

Music cruises or "floating festivals" are all the rage these days, with 70,000 TONS OF METAL, SHIPROCKED, THE WEEZER CRUISE, THE COUNTRY MUSIC CRUISE, BLUES ALIVE AT SEA, and several more genre and artist-specific cruises having hit the open waters over the past few years. Now comes one for the family music crowd with the just-announced MACARONI AND CRUISE, setting sail August 3-7, 2015.

Around 30 years ago, my parents took my sister and I on a road trip to Washington, D.C. Along the way, we stopped at several locations in Pennsylvania, making memories that have lasted a lifetime. With our girls hitting two and five this year, my wife and I decided it was time for our first family vacation - and as such, it was to be a road trip. We plotted several potential courses, with the Philadelphia area set to be the focal point and ultimate destination for a couple of reasons. First off, we were going to finally take Sprout up on a long-standing offer to stop by the Comcast Center and see Chica at the Sunshine Barn during a visit to the set of THE SUNNY SIDE UP SHOW. Second, we wanted to head for Langhorne to visit SESAME PLACE. During our planning, we attempted to pack in as much as possible, with potential stops in Washington, D.C., New York City, West Virginia and Cincinnati on the chart. Instead, we strategically plotted our trip to be centralized in PA - visiting some iconic locations in Philly (but scrapping the Sprout visit), our big trip to SESAME PLACE, a visit to THE CRAYOLA EXPERIENCE in Easton, HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE WORLD in Hershey, and a swing back through Ohio to visit my friends at SMUCKER'S on our way back to Northern Illinois.

SproutThis Saturday, April 19, Brooklyn Kindie Rockers THE POP UPS, will make an appearance on Sprout - visiting the Sunshine Barn to play some tunes for Chica and Tim on THE SUNNY SIDE UP SHOW. The duo will debut "Bug Out," a new song from their forthcoming album, APPETITE FOR CONSTRUCTION, while also digging into their back catalog for some additional gems to perform. This news comes on the heels of their new single and lyric video for "All These Shapes," which hit the 'net last week. Check out the video below...

Sprout Kindness CrewIf you're new to THE ROCK FATHER, you might not know that I've actually written a couple of pieces for the "Parenting" section of Sproutonline, the digital extension of Sprout Channel (you can read them here and here) as a member of their "Kindness Crew." The 24-hour preschool channel has been an important part of our lives for the past four years, so it's always exciting when they have news to share, and today I have just that. Their March programming highlights begin NOW with Oscar Weekend, and wrap-up with the very-appropriate, Music Week. Take a peek at what goodies you and your little ones can enjoy together this month...

The Rock Father is a 2014 PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) BloggerCaillou is a hero here at Rock Father HQ, my oldest daughter's first love... something that's been well-documented here on the site. There's a ton of educational value in the popular series (which airs on both PBS KIDS and Sprout here in the U.S.), and one of the biggest areas that's really hit home for us is the emphasis on Gardening. In fact, there's been an entire series of Caillou Ecology Club products, and last year, I featured one of our own adventures when I posted an entry called "Learning to Compost... Just Like Caillou." Now, just in-time for Spring, PBS Distribution is releasing a new DVD collection, CAILLOU'S GARDEN ADVENTURES, which will hit stores on February 25. Featuring six garden-themed episodes, kids and grownups can learn about water conservation, flowers, planting, and yes, even composting. Check out the details below!
