STORY LAURIE always hits me with things that could easily be filed under both "Family Music" and "Gardening" here on THE ROCK FATHER, as the New York-based Kindie artist has a habit of combining the two. For today, though, I'll put this one in the music category, as she's serving up a FREE DOWNLOAD of her new song, "Who Grew My Soup?" It's all in celebration of Earth Day (April 22) and the upcoming Farm to Cafeteria Conference (April 16-18, Austin, TX) at which Laurie will be a featured presenter- working with conference-goers to write a song on-the-fly. Stream or Download the song below...

New York singer/songwriter STORY LAURIE knows a thing or two about gardening (she once sent me some rare corn to plant from the Woodstock region), and with October here, it's time for Pumpkin Picking. Her new song, "Picking Pumpkins in the Pumpkin Patch" was co-written by 1st graders (Mrs. Bailey's 2012-2013 class, South Kortright School, NY) who took part in one of Laurie's "Cultivating Connections" songwriting workshops. It's a fun sing-along for the little ones, and it lands at Day 9 in my 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father this year. Listen or grab a FREE DOWNLOAD via the widget below...

As the Mandan Bride corn that STORY LAURIE sent us continues growing in The Rock Father Garden, now comes an update from Laurie on the musical front: her first music video has been released. Below the break you can check out "Five Little Monkeys," a video which features the entire McIntosh family in a new take on the classic nursery rhyme. Dean Jones of DOG ON FLEAS makes a cameo appearance playing  cuica and whistle.

Earlier this month, I posted a quick news item about STORY LAURIE, and some free tracks that were made available for download from her new GROOVIN' IN THE GARDEN album. After running that item, Laurie McIntosh got in touch and we exchanged some emails... and then a package arrived here last Friday. Inside that package was a CD, a nice note, and a packet of special seeds.

Now this is what I call a crossover. While it's technically something that would be posted under 'Music for Kids,' when an album is called GROOVIN' IN THE GARDEN, it's seems fitting to tell you about it here on The Rock Father™ Gardening Blog. Released last December, this album from New York-based STORY LAURIE & Friends features 16-songs that are perfect listening for those sunny afternoons spent working with your plants. To give you a taste, Laurie is giving away five free songs for the low price of an email.
