Despite all the cute photos I tend to post of The Rock Daughters™ and our family, my wife and I deal with cranky, angry kids at multiple points within each and every day. I like to say "Grumpelstiltskin" (which the girls hate), which is even more amusing since the Sugar Free Allstars just released a song and video with some similar thinking. Check out "Grumpopotamus (and the Crankosaurus Rex)" below for a serious kid-friendly funk jam!

Oklahoma City's SUGAR FREE ALLSTARS are one of my favorite bands lighting up the Kindie Scene, providing some true family-friendly funk jams that legitimately ROCK. On April 2, SFAs' Boom! (aka Chris Wiser) and Dr. Rock (aka Rob Martin) are back with a new, self-titled album of fresh jams that draw inspiration from Parliament Funkadelic, early ‘80s Prince, old-school rap, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Dixieland, and even Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem... one of the greatest bands of all-time. In fact, SUGAR FREE ALLSTARS even break out their own (stellar) version of The Electric Mayhem's "Can You Picture That?" from 1979's THE MUPPET MOVIE. For a taste of what's to come, check out the first video from the new album, "Monster Truck." Actually, this song nearly had me filing this one under Rock Father Rides...

As I mentioned last week, Oklahoma Kindie Rockers, the SUGAR FREE ALLSTARS, are prepping to release what is perhaps the only true family music release for this Saturday's annual RECORD STORE DAY. "My Daddy's Record Collection" will be available as a limited-edition 7" vinyl single, and today the band has released a lyric video for the song. Check out the new video below, along with an Instagram video shot here at Rock Father HQ just a few moments ago... showing my copy of the single in it's turntable-spinning glory!

Oklahoma's SUGAR FREE ALLSTARS have have a new single on the way, one that's a perfect song for our household, and likely may hit home for you as well. "My Daddy's Record Collection" celebrates families getting together to spin some tunes on wax - something that we do right here at Rock Father HQ. A rare Kindie (family music) release for Record Store Day this year, the 7" vinyl 45 rpm single will be released on April 19th with a launch set to take place at Guestroom Records in OKC.

Now in it's seventh year, the annual Fids & Kamily Music Awards have become a traditional celebration of the best in kids & family music. Inspired by the Village Voice's long-running "Pazz & Jop" Music Poll, Fids & Kamily gathers it's data from a variety of rock n' roll gangsters folks that are connected to family music in some fashion or another - bloggers, writers, radio personalities, and more. For the first time, The Rock Father is represented in the poll, as I was recently invited to become one of this year's 26 judges. So who were the best of the best? Find out below...
