Quantcast

I had a weird connect-the-dots morning. In the car last night, the little ones and I were listening to the "Lithium" channel on SiriusXM, and the last song we heard was the old Juliana Hatfield track, "My Sister." That song references The Del Fuegos, a band that split two decades ago and reunited earlier this year for a new collection of eight songs called SILVER STAR. By the time I fired up the email here at Rock Father HQ today, the first message I received was about a new Holiday release from acclaimed family/children's musician Dan Zanes... also guitarist/vocalist of The Del Fuegos.

After making a connection via twitter this weekend (you are following The Rock Father, right?), the folks behind the UK-based transmedia project, ZEAMU MUSIC got in touch with a couple of goodies for readers of The Rock Father to check out.

They've been lullabied a time or two in the past, but QUEEN has just gotten a fresh batch of lullabies courtesy of Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star. The popular lullaby line from the Roma Music Group just hit The Rock Father with full details on this new release, which hit iTunes today. Featuring a dozen classics made famous by Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon, Lullaby Versions of Queen can be purchased via this link, with the full tracklisting and cover art available below.

Watch: Shiprock and Anchordog - "Blueberries"

Written by

This past May, Evan Curran, a children’s singer-songwriter and kindergarten teacher from Western Massachusetts, released SHIPROCK AND ANCHORDOG, a "rock opera" about two buddies that happen to be dogs. The 21-track adventure in music and storytelling follows the dogs as they leave their desert home in search of a quality food supply, learning valuable lessons along the way.  Now, the first music video from the album has arrived with the release of "Blueberries."

With the December 4 release date for their new album, EXTRACTUM VICTORIS fast-approaching, The BOOGERS are back with another new video to showcase their furious brand of family-friendly kindie punk rock. "I Just Wanna Play" is my favorite BOOGERS video thus far, capturing the band in all their RAMONES-inspired glory, throwing down some infectious chords with an underlying message - that Free Play is essential for promoting healthy child development and parent-child bonding, in addition to being FUN. Rock out below!

RENEE AND JEREMY have had a busy year. Their recent covers album, A LITTLE LOVE (read my full review here) continues to spawn new singles and videos, including "Give it Away" (originally by the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) that debuted earlier this month. Today comes word that the acoustic kindie duo have release their SUNNY CHRISTMAS EP, which has arrived on iTunes and CDBaby this week.

THE POP UPS are responsible for one of our favorite family-friendly albums of 2012 with their awesome RADIO JUNGLE (review here). Now, being based in New York, the duo caught the effects of Hurricane Sandy (or Superstorm Sandy, whatever you want to call it) first-hand. As such, they've now released a new single and video called "40 Things to Do in a Blackout," and they're donated 100% of proceeds to the relief efforts. While it's not on iTunes just yet (it will be shortly), you can snag it on Bandcamp or Amazon for just a buck. Catch the video below...

Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star just hit The Rock Father with details on their 91st collection of rock-inspired "lullabies for all-ages," LULLABY VERSIONS OF THE ROLLING STONES. Available today on iTunes, this nursery-ready collection features 13 classic hits by Mick Jagger and Co., reworked into "lush instrumental versions" pefect for baby or relaxation. Check out the cover art and tracklisting below.

Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child is a weekly radio show for kids and grownups, syndicated from it's homebase in Austin, Texas. Featuring a great selection of Indie Music for the whole family, the show is broadcast weekly on Saturday mornings via several terrestrial stations (click here for listings) and then becomes available online for future enjoyment. This week's show is embedded below, and features music from JUSTIN ROBERTS, the BOOGERS, HARMONICA POCKET, and more. Crank it up!

I always hear a lot of people griping about Kickstarter projects that never come to fruition, so it's always cool to see the final result of a project done good. Case in point - MAKE A DISCOVERY: SONGS FOR KIDS, the new children's album from MARCIE. Successfully funded via Kickstarter this past June, MAKE A DISCOVERY exceeded it's $3,000 goal, and has now been released as a 100% Free Download for all to enjoy.

Earlier today, Chicago-based Children's Musician JUSTIN ROBERTS posted a Facebook update about the release of his new music video tomorrow. Well, the plan changed, as "Count Them As They Go" popped up over on Huffington Post Parents tonight. The video was created by ALSO here in Chicago, and serves as the visual companion to the lead track from Roberts' forthcoming new album, LULLABY (out November 19). Check it out below.

Back in May, Renee Stahl and Jeremy Toback, collectively known as RENEE & JEREMY, released their latest album, A LITTLE LOVE (read my full review here). A full collection of kid-friendly cover songs performed in a mellow, acoustic style, A LITTLE LOVE launched with a video for R&J version of COLDPLAY's "Yellow" (watch it here), and now it's spawned another. You can check out the new video for "Give it Away" (originally performed by the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) below...
