I'm late on posting this because it's been a busy week. That said, the crew from Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star sent over the full announcement for LULLABY VERSIONS of THE WHITE STRIPES, which was released digitally this past Tuesday. I think we'll see Jack and Meg back together one day. You know, Jack White is releasing some rare WHITE STRIPES on vinyl for Record Store Day this weekend. Those are on his own Third Man Records. As for the lullabies, check out the press release, and preview stream. Wait, THE RACONTEURS are here too? Well, Steady as She Goes...

Some News has Arrived at Rock Father™ HQ, and with the family in bed right now (currently 2:30am), The Musicbot 6000 is sharing the news with the press release below. I suspect that James will be reviewing this album in the months ahead.

If you missed my review of Gustafer Yellowgold's YEAR IN THE DAY earlier this week, hit this link to get caught up on why you and your little ones should be paying attention. That said, as our little buddy from The Sun has been exploring the Holidays of his new Earthly home, he's posted a music video that's just perfect for this weekend. ''Eggs'' is peaceful ode to the millions of colorful gems that are about to be dropped off by a six-foot anthropomorphic bunny this weekend. Whether you and your little ones celebrate ''Easter,'' or just prefer to celebrate Spring (like me!), here's a song for you.
You know, I'm not a big fan of Phish. While I think that Ben & Jerry's Phish Food is mighty tasty, and I played host to a simulcast of a Phish concert at a Regal Cinema back in 2004, the band just never grabbed me. Actually, I'm not huge into the ''jam band'' scene in general. Why am I telling you this? Well, it's because the crew over at Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star just hit The Rock Father™ with the news that they've just released Lullaby Versions of Phish. And since I know that there's a lot of parents out there that will love having this collection for their little ones, I can't mention the band without sharing my own thoughts. Haven't had Phish Food in a few years... might have to put it on the grocery list. Tracklisting and cover art below, along with a stream of If I Could.
Brooklyn-based Children's Musicians THE POP UPS have released a very cool music video for their new single Box of Crayons. You can see the video below, or check it out on YouTube where it's also featured on the shiny and new Rock Father Channel (subscribe!)
The Rock Father™ has just learned that Parents’ Choice® Silver Honor Award-winner HOPE HARRIS will release ''a lively new adventure into the world of art'' with the May 22 release of Picasso, That’s Who! (And So Can You!). Since we chose my daughter's middle name based on one of the artists homaged on this album, we'll definitely be giving it a listen. Check out the full details via the official press release below...
Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star just hit The Rock Father™ with news that their 64th collection of ''lullabies for all ages'' is now available, with LULLABY VERSIONS OF DAVID BOWIE arriving on iTunes and other digital retailers this week. I've posted an unusually large number of stories focused on the music of THE SMITHS this month, that it almost seems like overkill. No, not the thrash metal band ''Overkill,'' but a little too much. But, this news is just too good not to share. First off, those interested in introducing THE SMITHS to their infants might be interested to know that the Rockabye Baby! LULLABY RENDITIONS OF THE SMITHS (full details here) will be getting a limited-edition vinyl release for Record Store Day 2012.
Updated 3/20/12 - An attorney and a member of Jason Mraz' management team contacted me about this album tonight, wrongfully accusing me of distributing unauthorized music. This is a news item - just as there are many other news items on this site. Making an assumption without research is foolish. The Rock Father™ is a music-centric ''Daddy Blog & Website,'' and there is nothing on this website that should in any way indicate that I am a distributor of music. I receive press releases and decide which albums to cover - just as I've done at other websites, papers, and magazines in the past. You can check out the Music for Kids or the Music for Grown-ups sections for other similarly-formatted pieces of music news. If people either can't read, nor properly comprehend what they're reading, that's not my problem. The original news item continues unedited below this text. - James
Updated Again: Since ABC News Radio has covered the album as well, perhaps these members of Jason Mraz' ''team'' will attack them as well? I somehow doubt it. - James
The good folks at Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star have released the 63rd installment of their popular Lullaby series, with LULLABY VERSIONS OF JASON MRAZ hitting iTunes and other digital retailers today. The 13-track collection of ''lush instrumental versions'' of Mr. A to Z's most popular songs is priced at only $7.99, and includes the recent hit ''I Won't Give Up'' - the original version of which appears on Mraz' forthcoming new album, LOVE IS A FOUR LETTER WORD (due out April 17 via Atlantic). The Rock Father™ has the full tracklisting for Lullaby Versions of Jason Mraz below, along with a preview stream of ''I'm Yours.''
Last year, LEGO duplo released a series of 11 songs under the LEGO DUPLO JAMS banner. Inspired by British Pop and performed by a ''preschool Dad,'' the tracks are designed to be a companion for playtime - especially when paired with the popular LEGO duplo blocks. A study conducted between May-June 2011 was released alongside the 'JAMS and presented some data that's not surprising - 55% of children are happier when music is coupled with play; 50% are more excited when they hear music; and 43% of children act sillier when music is coupled with play.
