We're big fans of GUSTAFER YELLOWGOLD around these parts, Morgan Taylor's little sun-spawned creation having been mentioned in no less than 16 articles here on the site, over the years, and his YEAR IN THE DAY reviewed on THE ROCK FATHER way back in 2012 (two years seems pretty long these days) and being awarded a perfect 5-star review. On September 23, the follow-up arrives with the release of GUSTAFER YELLOWGOLD'S WISDOM TOOTH OF WISDOM, the next installment of the award-winning "Musical Moving Book" series of DVD/CD combos. Check out an extended, nearly four-minute trailer below...

KidzapaloozaIf you're heading out to Lollapalooza this weekend in Chicago and you have little ones along for the ride, the Kidzapalooza stage has some fine, family-friendly music from the likes of BRADY RYMER AND THE LITTLE BAND THAT COULD, PLAY DATE, SCHOOL OF ROCK and more. But this year, something special is happening - performances by the Chicago Kindie All-Stars on Friday (1:30pm) and Saturday (12:30pm) featuring some of the Windy City's best family music stars performing alongside THE HEARTBEATS, best-known as LAURA DOHERTY's backing band. How many All-Stars you ask? Six.

THE WHIRLYGIGS are is a one-man band, perhaps the first one-man affair that I've covered here on THE ROCK FATHER. With MR. WHIRLY performing up to four instruments at one time (but only having two arms), the man pulls of the band on his debut album, GREETINGS FROM CLOUD 9 (Amazon, iTunes, Bandcamp), but the big challenge now is getting it in front of a wide audience, and as such - Whirly is offering a FREE DOWNLOAD of the new track, "Lookin' Out the Window." Stream it below...

MISTER G has been touring hard this summer - touring libraries - in support of his latest album, THE BOSSY E. From that record comes a brand-new animated music video that's making it's official debut this morning... "Love To Read." Take a look at the new video, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

Is it live, or is it MEMOREX? Today, MISTA COOKIE JAR unleashes "My My My," the first music video from his brand-new EP, 3'S A CHARM. The video is a look back at his family, and it's best intro'd complete with a Memorex nod from the man himself. CJ, take it away...

Welcome to THE ROCK FATHER's Kindie Scene 6, a new column in which you'll find some quick thoughts on six genre-spanning family-friendly albums that you can check out right now. On-deck today, we've got records spinning from BRADY RYMER, ERIC HERMAN, RIFF ROCKIT, THE OKEE DOKEE BROTHERS, DJANGO JONES and SUZI SHELTON. Let's get to work...

Two years ago, BEA MILLER appeared on THE X FACTOR, scoring a slot as a finalist and finishing ninth. Now, the 15-year-old (weird to me that she was born the same year I got married) has a new EP out through Hollywood Records/SYCO Music, and this week, the official music video for the title track has arrived. Check out "Young Blood" below, along with a few words about the single from Miss Miller...

The crew over at Roma Music Group has been busy of late - working feverishly on new lullaby collections devoted to artists both current, and cult favorite. This week sees the release of the latest album to become a part of their popular TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE ROCK STAR series - LULLABY VERSIONS OF NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS (available on Amazon or iTunes)The new record features 13 tracks, all re-worked into nursery-friendly instrumentals... including "Red Right Hand," which always makes me think of the movie SCREAM. Check out "Into My Arms" below...

When Warner Bros. Pictures brought JERSEY BOYS to theater screens a few weeks back, it wasn't quite the out-of-the-gate hit that people were expecting... but it's a tough summer, especially when you're up against giant robots and all. At the core of the Clint Eastwood film is music - and while I may emphasize "rock" here quite a bit, those that know me well know that I'm all over the place in terms of interest, and musical history is very important to me. With that, I hope that the music of FRANKIE VALLI and THE FOUR SEASONS (along with that of other vocal groups) will always gain new listeners who appreciate the timeless quality of their songs. That said, my friends at Rhino Records have teamed up with THE ROCK FATHER for a massive giveaway... perhaps "the ultimate" FOUR SEASONS giveaway, in which one (1) lucky reader will score 3 new box sets, and the JERSEY BOYS Soundtrack - 29 discs in all! Let's take a look...

Since I'm out on the road this week doing a Great American Road Trip as part of my 2014 #RockFatherTour, some of the mainstream rock sites beat me to the punch on this one, but I need to share this here on THE ROCK FATHER as well... news that my friends at Roma Music Group have just released LULLABY VERSIONS OF FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH as part of their popular and fast-growing TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE ROCK STAR series of lullabies. Check out the lullaby version of "Battle Born" below!

Watch: THE NOT-ITS! - "Haircut" Music Video

Written by

On July 15, one of the best Kindie Rock albums of the year will hit the streets when Seattle's THE NOT-ITS! unleash RAISE YOUR HAND. Part of Seattle's "Kindiependent Collective," alongside RECESS MONKEY, THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, THE HARMONICA POCKET, CASPAR BABYPANTS (Chris from PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), BRIAN VOGAN & HIS GOOD BUDDIES, and JOHNNY BREGAR, THE NOT-ITS! features the former singer of Sub Pop's VELOCITY GIRL and drummer of HARVEY DANGER - facts I always point out, just in-case you've not yet heard of THE NOT-ITS!, which, if you read this site often (as you should) you have. Check out their new music video for "Haircut," right here on THE ROCK FATHER, and when you're done, be sure to check out my recent interview with guitarist Danny Adamson.

SECRET AGENT 23 SKIDOO dropped his new album, THE PERFECT QUIRK this week, so what else did he do? He dropped himself... and a copy of the new album on CD... from an airplane at 13,000 feet. The premiere purveyor of Kid-Hop recently took part in my #RockFathersDay Series here on THE ROCK FATHER, throwing down some parenting wisdom and thoughts on music ahead of the new release. Check that out here, and watch Cactus make his historic jump below...
