Love Board Games? The ICECOOL Antarctica Challenge Could Send you on an Icy Voyage...

Written by

If you love board games and travel, then the ICECOOL Antarctica Challenge should be right up your alley. We see a lot of contests and sweepstakes getting pitched around these parts, but never before has a board game company served-up a chance for an adventure to Antarctica! With a "main prize fund of $18,000 USD," Brain Games will launch a global ICECOOL trickshot contest on October 1st, the winner of which will score a two-person voyage to Antarctica to meet real penguins.

ICECOOL  is an award-winning board game in which players have to master flicking techniques to compete in a unique box–in–a–box setup in which penguins race through school. Here's the pitch:

The lunch break is almost there and all of the young penguins would finally get the fish they've been craving for. However, some rascals think they are quick enough to snatch some of the fish before the lunch break starts, but they have forgotten one thing – the Hall Monitor! Each school day one of the penguins is designated to watch over the school, and this is his moment to shine – for each rascal penguin he catches he would get additional fish! A fun run takes place – the rascals are running everywhere and trying to snatch some fish on their way, but the Hall Monitor is trying to catch each and one of them to have some order in the school. Who will be more successful?

Ice Cool is a flicking game in which each round one of the players takes the role of the Hall Monitor (also called "the Catcher") – his aim will be to catch each other penguin and get points for that. The others (also known as "Runners") will try to run through several doors, thus gaining fish (that give them points) on their way. When either the Hall Monitor has caught each other penguin once or any of the others has gone through all 3 doors that have fish on them, the round is over. Each player will take the role of the Hall Monitor once and at the end of the game the winner will be the one with the most points on their fish cards. The penguins can be flicked in a straight line, make curves and even jump over the walls! Each player will have to use the best of their skills in order to get the most points in this fun and exciting game. It's not just cool, it's ICE COOL!

The ICECOOL Antarctica Challenge will be live from October 1st until January 15th and will be available in 26 countries. To enter ICECOOL Antarctica challenge participants need to submit a trick shot video with ICECOOL penguins on www.icecoolantarctica.com. Video can be shared on various social media platforms for better exposure and public votes.

The evaluation period will take place in two parts from January 15th to February 4th. In the first part, national judges will select winners from the regions who will receive prizes from ICECOOL partners and distributors. Each nation's national jury will have to select the 5 best videos to compete in the finals of the world final prize winner.

The global jury will consist of well-known board game experts – Tom Vasel (internationally recognized podcaster, designer and reviewer of board games, Host of The Dice Tower), Joachim Ulbrich (Amigo Spiele CEO), Egils Grasmanis (Brain Games CEO). They will evaluate all country finalists tricks based on the skill of trickshot (50%) and creativity (50%) and select main prize winner who will go to Antarctica.

The trip includes plane tickets to Argentina (including connecting flights) as this is where the cruise will depart from. Winner will also enjoy 9 nights of discovery and learning voyage through the “Classic Antarctic” route, taking on an adventure through Antarctica, where travelers will stay in a complete twin cabin on a new and advanced vessel, Hondius. The prize will include two inspiring activities including a night of camping out under the Antarctic night sky with all the camping gear provided and kayaking through the Polar waters with a chance to explore the shorelines of the Polar regions. This incredible trip is operated by Oceanwide Expeditions and will be used on December 9th-11th, 2019.
