One of our most-anticipated new animated series' makes its debut this fall, and that's VAMPIRINA - from Doc McStuffins creator Chris Nee. Today Disney hit The Rock Father™ with news that James Van Der Beek ("Dawson's Creek," What Would Diplo Do?") and Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls") will voice the roles of Vampirina's parents, Boris and Oxana Hauntley. Twelve-year-old Isabella Crovetti ("Colony") stars as the voice of Vampirina (aka Vee), a lovable young vampire girl, who is facing the joys and trials of being the new kid in town when her family moves from Transylvania to Pennsylvania. The series will debut on Disney Channel, Disney Junior and the Disney NOW App.
Last month at New York Toy Fair, countless toymakers rolled-out a preview of what's in-store for the rest of 2017 and beyond. Among the toys that we're most interested in here at Rock Father HQ are those in the new Vampirina collection by Just Play. On the surface, the ingredients for success are there in that it's the latest Disney Junior series from Doc McStuffins creator, Chris Nee, based on the hit Vampirina Ballerina books by Anne Marie Pace. For Disney, the characters have been updated with a look more in-line with what preschoolers and elementary-aged kids have come to expect. While I think that my girls are gonna be all over this, I see so much potential -- this coming from a guy that's Halloween-obsessed, and has written stories about supernatural beings a time (or two) in the past. With a storyline following an immigrant family (of vampires, no less) that has moved from Transylvania to Pennsylvania, there's some topical issues at hand (new kid in town, dealing with differences, etc.), but on the toy front, what's coming is just so cool...
For the past few months, families have been on the edge of their seats waiting for official word on the future of Doc McStuffins - a series that has huge importance here at Rock Father HQ (check out this recent feature), and is equally important to countless families around the world. Today comes the news we've been waiting for - Disney Junior has ordered a fifth season of the Peabody Award-winning hit! Since its premiere in March 2012, the animated series has received acclaim for its portrayal of a young girl who aspires to be a doctor like her mom. Showcasing the hallmarks of great Disney storytelling -- fantasy and wish fulfillment -- the series models compassion and good health for kids age 2-7. The announcement was made today by Nancy Kanter, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide.
Released earlier this month in timing with Valentine's Day, CUDDLE ME LAMBIE is the latest DVD collection of the Disney Junior hit DOC McSTUFFINS to hit the streets. While the loveable Lambie ("You need a cuddle") takes center stage on this five-episode collection (which includes the seasonally-appropriate, "My Huggy Valentine"), one of the highlights for me is that this set includes the classic episode "Kirby And The King"/"Bubble Monkey, Blow Your Nose!" - the first part of which centers on my favorite character from DOC McSTUFFINS lore... the Wicked King.
