I've been a little out of the loop these past couple of days (out of town for a wake/funeral), so there's a couple of important pop culture happenings that I'm belated in posting about, yet ones that need to be showcased here on THE ROCK FATHER. One such point? The debut of the full-length teaser of MARVEL's ANT-MAN - the latest entry into the ever-growing MARVEL Cinematic Universe, and one of my most-anticipated films of 2015. Check out Paul Rudd (who my wife points out "looks hot in this trailer") and Michael Douglas (who I'll point out is "a cinematic treasure") getting suited-up below...

On January 14, 2015, the first new STAR WARS comic books to bear the MARVEL imprint since the 80s will begin arriving at comic shops (new comics day is Wednesday), expanding the STAR WARS world into exciting new directions with stories that will become official pieces of STAR WARS canon. As these new tales take their places in a timeline that includes the motion pictures and select animated series' (like STAR WARS REBELS), these new books will be an excellent starting point to get new readers into comics, while bringing fresh tales with familiar characters to longtime fans like me. If you're curious what the future of STAR WARS comics holds, take a look at my rundown below - a cheat-sheet of what to look for in the months ahead (release dates subject to change)...

There was a time when the DEATH WALKS THE STREETS (DWTS) comic books were available for free on a few major platforms prior to being reissued at digital cover price. Ten years into the DWTS journey, there's still new friends discovering the DWTS world for the very first time, and in the five years since the first comic was published, new readers have been enjoying and experiencing our stories on a weekly basis. For Halloween 2014, we're inviting YOU to experience DEATH WALKS THE STREETS through a FREE DOWNLOAD of DWTS #1 - the Halloween issue!

For Halloween Week, it's only appropriate to take a deeper look at the infamous DEATH WALKS THE STREETS #1: A NEW MARSHALL FALL. The "Halloween issue" was ripe in seasonal goodness, a heavily-detailed affair featuring the artwork of Guilherme Balbi (DC's SUPERBOY, Dark Horse's PREDATOR), along with the gorgeous interior color work of Milen Parvanov (DC's RESIDENT EVIL, Lion Forge's KNIGHT RIDER). With The Organization running things in New Marshall, it's to be expected that certain things will "fall off the truck" on occasion... or the whole truck will just wind up in the wrong hands. What bounty would Michael find himself tasked with unloading in the first moments of DWTS #1? Halloween candy... specifically, "Choco-Bats."

Oh, the oddities of the DEATH WALKS THE STREETS project...

Indeed, there were many, and in a lot of ways we were ahead of the curve in terms "transmedia" marketing and how different pieces would fit into the bigger puzzle. At one point, at least a half-dozen characters from the DWTS world had dedicated MySpace pages where they were blogging regularly (stories penned by me) with tales that would directly plug into the larger DWTS storyline with seamless continuity. By the time the comics came along, we took things to the next level, calling into action the actress that was set to be our live-action Danielle in the planned films - our Australian friend, Efisia Fele. Her screen test for the first DWTS film was KILLER (I hope I still have a copy somewhere), but what we did for the comics were video blogs that led directly into each issue. Take a look...

Like many of the original STAR WARS generation, I grew up on the occasional STAR WARS Comic Book, then-published by MARVEL comics. Fast-forward about three decades, and the comics are back at MARVEL, it being a corporate sibling to Lucasfilm under the Disney umbrella, and with STAR WARS REBELS out on Disney XD and J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: EPISODE VII filming now, a few new series' of comics are coming. Thanks to the new alignment, everything will fit into place nicely, with these stories being part of the official timeline, and today comes the first look - just a small tease - of what's coming...
