"The streaming wars" are real, and 2019 looks to be the year that they finally start becoming a real issue. While "cord-cutting" continues to rise (we're even about to drop our Xfinity TV subscription here at Rock Father HQ), consumers are quickly seeing their monthly savings shrink as they buy into new services that offer exclusive content a la carte. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon's Prime Video continue to dominate, but Apple's new streaming service is on the horizon along with Disney+ and offerings from studios such as Warner Bros. These majors ride alongside smaller standalone services like DC Universe, WWE Network and many others. Now comes news that DHX Media has inked a deal with Apple to create new series, specials and short-form content based on PEANUTS - the iconic characters created by Charles M. Schulz. If you love Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang and can't live without seeing their new adventures, get ready for another bill when Apple's as-yet-unnamed new streaming service comes online.

The news first slipped out in Canada a week or so ago following a few toys that showed up at Hong Kong Toy Fair, but now it's officially official: MASSIVE MONSTER MAYHEM is getting a toy line, and it's coming from Alpha Group, the folks behind Super Wings and Screechers Wild. DHX Brands has named Alpha Group as the master licensee, promising "larger-than-life" inflatable role-play toys and dress up items as well as action figures, radio control toys, plush and board games inspired by the action-packed Nickelodeon series. After making its US debut on Nicktoons, the series just got a "massive" pick-up, with Nickelodeon International rolling it out in over 140 countries.

2017 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Teletubbies - Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po - a quartet of colorful aliens with a childlike curiosity about the world around them. As I first wrote about earlier this year, the legend of the Teletubbies continues to grow as the series and characters have been updated for a new generation of tech-savvy tots, with new episodes airing weekdays at 9:47am on Nick Jr. There's the new toys from Spin Master, and from DHX Media and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, the new "Big Hugs" DVD. With summer road trip season upon us, now is the perfect time to bring the Teletubbies along for the ride, ad we're gonna give you a shot at winning some new DVDs to take with you!

Back in the days when we only had one daughter, Target had a line of clothing from Gwen Stefani called "Harajuku Mini." I gobbled it up, dressing the little one in some really cute things, and one item that was handed-down for a short time was what we dubbed the "rocker hoodie." Alas, the clothing is long gone, but there's more Harajuku to enjoy, including Stefani’s animated series KUU KUU HARAJUKU. The 2D-animated series currently airs on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and on Family Channel in Canada, and on June 13, 2017, Shout! Factory in collaboration with DHX Media will release KUU KUU HARAJUKU: MUSIC, BABY!, - the series' first-ever DVD. Containing 14 episodes from Season One, initial shipments of the DVD contain a code to download the KUU KUU HARAJUKU theme song (while supplies last). KUU KUU HARAJUKU: MUSIC, BABY! is available now for pre-order at Amazon.com and ShoutFactory.com

It was twenty years ago that the world first laid eyes on a quartet of colorful aliens with a childlike curiosity about the world around them. Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po became an immediate hit, with little ones becoming enamored with the grassy world of the Teletubbies. I was working retail at the time, just two years shy of getting married, my future wife and I still a good twelve years off from having kids of our own. Still, I was on the front lines as the first wave (a tsunami, really) of Teletubbies popularity rolled in, with families eager to find the latest merchandise for their little fans. Two decades later, Teletubbies have been reinvigorated - revamped for their 20th Anniversary to delight new generations of kids. Having worked so well the first time around, the changes more like subtle upgrades, all meant to better connect with tech-savvy tots through a new series on, a fresh line of toys from the folks at Spin Master, and the new Big Hugs DVD from DHX Media.

Caillou will forever hold "legendary" status among these parts as the first character that our oldest daughter truly fell in love with. Though new episodes of his self-titled series haven't been produced in a number of years, the folks at DHX Media and PBS Distribution continue to package special compilations that go with seasons and themes, and for spring 2017 comes Playtime with Caillou. This new collection features seven episodes of the series on one DVD (pre-order now). Details below...
