At The Walt Disney Company's annual shareholder's meeting this morning, CEO Robert Iger made a few announcements that are bound to excite movie fans young and old. The biggest comes from the company's PIXAR arm, with CARS 3 and long-requested THE INCREDIBLES 2 (with Director Brad Bird returning) in-development. On the galaxy far, far away note, Iger says that the Lucasfilm production of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will take place 30 years after the events of RETURN OF THE JEDI, with "some very familiar faces along with a trio of new leads," according to the folks at THR. But that's not all that was announced...

I'm not quite sure how we missed this here at Rock Father HQ - this news item being penned by a guy that wears a CARS LAND Racing Jacket almost daily - but CARS 3D exists, and was just released today as the CARS 3D ULTIMATE COLLECTOR'S EDITION Blu-ray... making me wish we had a player to support it. MONSTERS UNIVERSITY (Blu-Ray Review)

MONSTERS UNIVERSITYIt didn't even hit me until recently that MONSTERS INC. is already a twelve-year-old movie, just the fourth film in a string of hits born of the now-famed Disney•Pixar relationship. Released nearly eight years before I became a parent - or, "The Rock Father" - my little ones hadn't actually seen the film prior to the release of MONSTERS UNIVERSITY (Disney•Pixar's 14th film) earlier this summer. While we'd missed the new prequel during it's theatrical run, a review copy arrived here at Rock Father HQ courtesy of Disney... conveniently just one day after we'd seen the original broadcast on Disney XD.

When Disney•Pixar released CARS in 2006, I had no idea that I'd one day be a parent... much less be The Rock Father. Fast-forward seven years, and I'm not only raising two octane-obsessed daughters, but CARS has become a permanent part of the pop culture landscape. Now, with the recent release of the animated spin-off, Disney PLANES, the girls and I have started to create our own adventures high above the World of Cars, recently expanding our toy collection with some new characters from Mattel's extensive line of CARS and PLANES vehicles. The area in and around Rock Father HQ is a big world to explore... and a fun one where the girls and I discovered Propwash Junction and staged our own Wings Across the World race.

As BRAVE gave Pixar their seventh Oscar for "Best Animated Feature" at last night's Academy Awards, audiences that have yet to experience the tale of Merida are seeking it out, while those who have are seeking new ways to do so. I have to admit that while well-versed in the "Disney Princess" realm, we have not yet seen BRAVE, though we did get a taste at the recent ROCKIN' EVER AFTER edition of Disney on Ice. That said, iOS users that are looking to expand on the world of BRAVE with their own children have two recent Apps to check out...
