One of our most-anticipated series' of the year finally has a premiere date. Based on the children's book series Vampirina Ballerina written by Anne Marie Pace and illustrated by LeUyen Pham Disney Junior's VAMPIRINA was developed for television by Doc McStuffins creator Chris Nee, and will premiere SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1 (11:00 a.m. EDT), with two back-to-back episodes simulcast on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. The episodes will also be available on Disney Junior VOD, Disney Junior YouTube and in the new DisneyNOW app, which will also debut two additional episodes same day. New episodes will be presented every Monday and Friday in October on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. Check out the title sequence and theme song below, along with more details on this seasonally-appropriate new series!
Last month at New York Toy Fair, countless toymakers rolled-out a preview of what's in-store for the rest of 2017 and beyond. Among the toys that we're most interested in here at Rock Father HQ are those in the new Vampirina collection by Just Play. On the surface, the ingredients for success are there in that it's the latest Disney Junior series from Doc McStuffins creator, Chris Nee, based on the hit Vampirina Ballerina books by Anne Marie Pace. For Disney, the characters have been updated with a look more in-line with what preschoolers and elementary-aged kids have come to expect. While I think that my girls are gonna be all over this, I see so much potential -- this coming from a guy that's Halloween-obsessed, and has written stories about supernatural beings a time (or two) in the past. With a storyline following an immigrant family (of vampires, no less) that has moved from Transylvania to Pennsylvania, there's some topical issues at hand (new kid in town, dealing with differences, etc.), but on the toy front, what's coming is just so cool...
The 2017 Toy Fair is getting underway at the Javits Center in New York right now, and while I'm not there in-person, I've still got tons of new toy news to share! One early reveal comes from the folks at Just Play, and it's a line that's an important one for our girls here at Rock Father HQ: Disney Junior's Doc McStuffins. With the series having been just greenlit for another season, Doc's adventures continue to go in new directions, and that means some great new toys. Over the past few weeks, a new collection of Doc McStuffins Baby toys have been hitting retail, including a Diaper Bag and Get Better Baby Cece, but the pinnacle of the new line is the Doc McStuffins Baby Checkup All-in-One Nursery. A follow-up to the famed (and at one time, extremely hard-to-get Check-up Center), this new playset will hit retail this fall, and is destined to become a sought-after holiday gift, and an early pick for my 2017 Holiday Wish Guide. Take a look!
The Rock Daughters™ are gonna flip, as some of their favorite characters are about to officially meet in a special episode of Doc McStuffins. On January 18 at 7:30pm ET, Disney Junior will debut "Into the Hundred Acre Wood!," a new episode in which a particularly blustery day in McStuffinsville finds Doc and her crew coming face-to-face with Winnie the Pooh and friends!
For the past few months, families have been on the edge of their seats waiting for official word on the future of Doc McStuffins - a series that has huge importance here at Rock Father HQ (check out this recent feature), and is equally important to countless families around the world. Today comes the news we've been waiting for - Disney Junior has ordered a fifth season of the Peabody Award-winning hit! Since its premiere in March 2012, the animated series has received acclaim for its portrayal of a young girl who aspires to be a doctor like her mom. Showcasing the hallmarks of great Disney storytelling -- fantasy and wish fulfillment -- the series models compassion and good health for kids age 2-7. The announcement was made today by Nancy Kanter, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide.
We're truly living in a Golden Age of children's television, and while there's many great programming options for kids that provide valuable lessons for families, few will likely establish the kind of long-term lasting impact that Doc McStuffins has. I've written about the series many times over the past four years, and now, with its latest iteration - Doc McStuffins: Toy Hospital - making a splash on Disney Junior, there's new adventures to be had on-screen and off. The series has inspired a generation, and our oldest daughter is a prime example - a seven-year-old who wishes to become a doctor and has taken what she's learned from little Dottie McStuffins and her friends, and has applied it to other areas of play. She wants to help people, and know the "how and why" to the way things are. For my 2016 Holiday Wish Guide™, I'm showing you the best of the latest Doc McStuffins toys - hand-picked by The Rock Daughters™
