There's certainly no shortage of collectible figurines available out there, and it seems that everybody has something cool going on. My friends at Entertainment Earth sell many of those, but they've also gotten into the action as a toymaker themselves, putting a decidedly retro spin into action for their own line: Pin Mates. For those looking to build a massive collection that's light on price and small on size, Pin Mates bring pop culture licenses into the realm of tiny wooden figures that recall the old Fisher-Price Little People of the 60s and 70s. With prices starting at just $4.99 a figure, they're really affordable, and one of the coolest recent assortments ties into a film that's just hitting the in-home market - Marvel Studios Thor: Ragnarok. Now available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Digital HD, DVD and Moves Anywhere, fans can bring home the galactic adventure of Thor and Hulk as we charge toward the coming Avengers: Infinity War. But how about something to play with, too? The crew at Entertainment Earth recently sent me a box of Pin Mates for review, and inside were some extras that I'm going to pass onto one of you! One lucky friend of The Rock Father™ will receive a pack of five (5) Thor: Ragnarok Pin Mates! Ready to Ragnarok?
It's officially Pokémon Day, and my friends at Entertainment Earth are celebrating in an appropriate manner - with a sale, of course! Pokémon fans can take advantage of free domestic shipping on in-stock Pokémon merchandise (and anything else in the order that is also in-stock) on top of the great deals that EE has to offer. Of course, Entertainment Earth and I are longtime affiliates and collaborators, so a portion of sales purchased through my link will help to support operations here at Rock Father™ HQ. If you've gotta catch 'em all, you should save a few bucks when you can, too!
I have a unique relationship with Pokémon. Back when the original games were released in 1996, I was working for Walmart (seems like a lifetime ago), so I was on the ground floor when the craze begain. It all started on February 27, 1996 with the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan, and because of that The Pokémon Company International commemorates this date with new products and promotions that give Pokémon fans around the world new ways to interact with the Pokémon brand. Pokémon Day could be called "every Trainer’s favorite pop-culture holiday," and it's today - 2/27/2018! Pokémon Trainers can now access the Pikachu Talk skill for Amazon Alexa and Pikachu Talk action for Google Home. Fans can also join Pokémon Day celebrations on social media with all-new Snapchat Lenses featuring the original first partner Pokémon—Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle—while also enjoying new Pokémon merchandise, opportunities to watch iconic Pokémon animation, and the chance to catch a special Pikachu in Pokémon GO. A few weeks ago, my wife and I went to see Hamilton: An American Musical. It lives up to the hype, it's fantastic, and I'm a huge fan. Previously, I was more into the work of Lin-Manuel Miranda thanks to Moana and his contribution to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now, with Mary Poppins Returns and a host of other projects on the horizon, it's guaranteed that we'll have much entertainment from the multi-hyphenate (who I'm now calling a "fellow Rock Father" thanks to his rendition of the PAW Patrol theme) for years to come, so what's next? Collectibles, of course! While I've long-been expecting Hamilton Funko POP! Vinyls to get a proper release (people keep making custom versions), there is a Lin-Manuel Miranda figure on the way from my friends at Entertainment Earth. In partnership with TeeRico, the Lin-Manuel and Tobi Pin Mates Wooden Collectibles will be available this summer as part of the Pin Mates Silver Series. Available for pre-order right now, a portion of proceeds from each retro-styled figure set will go to charity.
For those who collect Hasbro Star Wars action figures in the classic 3.75" scale, you may have noticed what's been called the "home entertainment 4-packs" the past few years. These sets hit retail alongside the in-home releases of each new film on Blu-ray and DVD, and in the past they've included the Takodana Encounter (The Force Awakens) and Jedha Revolt (Rogue One). These have traditionally included some exclusive figures, and for Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes the Battle on Crait 4-pack. Available this spring, my friends at Entertainment Earth just sent over the full details on this new collection which features Rey (Jedi Apprentice, salt on boots), a First Order Snowtrooper, First Order Gunner, and Rose (Crait Poncho). Check out the box below, and be sure to pre-order yours now!
As I've mentioned before, the accelerated release schedule of new Star Wars movies can lead to some problems when it comes to the logistics and distribution of new toys - particularly those that are assorted. While it seems like it's been better lately, new action figures from Star Wars: The Last Jedi are about to start running into a squeeze when Hasbro releases new product tied to Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story and the long-awaited return of their Star Wars: The Vintage Collection line. As they did with Rogue One, my friends at Entertainment Earth aim to help kids and collectors looking for the hard-to-find characters by bringing in a trio of exclusives to finish up The Last Jedi-branded run. From Hasbro's 3¾" Action Figure collection comes a First Order Flame Trooper, Resistance Pilot C'ai Threnalli and the Finn vs. Captain Phasma 2-Pack (with Finn in First Order disguise)! You won't find these at a store near you!
