There is so much to love about STAR WARS REBELS, and my girls can certainly attest to digging Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios a lot. The muscle of The Ghost's crew, Zeb borrows much of his design from the original Chewie sketches by Ralph McQuarrie, but his voice has always struck me as a rougher Jason Statham type. This former member of the Lasat Honor Guard took much pride in busting the heads of Stormtroopers, and today he appears as the featured entry in Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar. STAR WARS REBELS is back for a second season this Fall on Disney XD.

Is it a coincidence that the one overweight member of the Red Squadron in STAR WARS was named Porkins? Red Six flew alongside Luke Skywalker, but Jek Porkins didn't last long, his X-Wing Fighter being shot down by an Imperial TIE Fighter while making an attack on the Death Star during the Battle of Yavin 4. Portrayed by actor William Hootkins, the 2000 Hasbro Power of the Jedi action figure of Porkins is today's featured entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar. Hootkins, who died in 2005, was born on this day back in 1948. He also played another memorable role for many, that of Lt. Eckhardt in Tim Burton's 1989 BATMAN film.

I guess it's appropriate that Hasbro decided to feature Nien Nunb for Independence Day - after all, he did help destroy the second Death Star, co-piloting the Millennium Falcon with Lando Calrissian and busting out some interesting verbiage along the way. While it's the 2012 "Vintage Collection" version of the pilot that's featured in the Force Friday Countdown Calendar today, it's the 1997 Power of the Force edition that we have here at Rock Father HQ. But, since we're spinning things back a bit, lets take a look at the mail-away commercial for the vintage Kenner edition circa 1983...

Well, this is a bit of foreshadowing. The final duel at Mustafar between Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in REVENGE OF THE SITH would signal the true turn to the Dark Side for the latter, his transformation into Darth Vader complete. We'd eventually see the two face-off once more in A NEW HOPE, but the outcome would be significantly different. For today's entry into the Hasbro Force Friday Countdown, the Mustafar Final Duel Playset is featured, and this is one I've actually not seen before. Things are getting pretty hot for Ani...

The EWOKS have made an appearance in the Hasbro Force Friday Countdown already, previously checking-in back in May with 107 days to go. But here they are again, and I don't mind - because I will proudly admit that I love the Ewoks. Here we find them featured with the 2013 Ewok Assault Catapult that was released as part of The Vintage Collection, I believe as a Kmart exclusive. While I don't have this one in the collection, I do have some Ewoks. Speaking of which, did you see when I made an "Endor Garden" using cactus and succulents from Costa Farms

It was roughly 4 minutes and 33 seconds into 1977's STAR WARS (before we knew it as "A NEW HOPE" or "EPISODE IV") that audiences first witnessed the cinematic debut of Darth Vader... Dark Lord of the Sith. He didn't even need to say a word, and audiences knew he was the biggest badass in the galaxy. By the next time we see him again just over a minute later, he's choking some guy, and then he just tosses him aside. Evil? Sure, but within a year or so, millions of kids (myself included) were running around dressed as Darth, and his original Kenner action figure from 1978 quickly became a sought-after item for backyard battles. In celebration of actor David Prowse's birthday, Darth Vader is today's entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar!
