A Special Thank You to Mitsubishi Motors & the DriveShop Chicago Office...

As I type these words, it is literally "the night before Christmas." Right now, at this very moment, the sounds of A Christmas Story can be heard emitting from the television in our family room. Both my wife and our youngest daughter are asleep on the couch (our oldest is finally asleep upstairs after a bit of Xmas Eve naughtiness), as the twinkle of lights has placed a magical, very comfortable vibe on the house. I finished prepping tomorrow's turkey, and now here I am - in my office, typing away while awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus, and reflecting on what a busy holiday season this has been - one capping another busy year. While my family is always on my mind, tonight I'm also thinking of others, hoping that the third annual "Rock Father Santa" program was able to do some good. A few weeks back, our family hit the road once more, making our annual toy delivery in one of my favorite new vehicles serving as this year's "sleigh" - the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander. I know we've done good, but I can't help but think that we could've done better... and that bothers me.

The home stretch of the 2016 holiday season is upon us, and while there's been a solid collection of new release seasonal music released this year, we're not quite done yet. A late entry into the field comes from American Hi-Fi, who has served-up a punk-rock cover of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" featuring MxPx frontman Mike Herrera. Check it out...

Presented in Partnership with Nintendo of America #3DSKidForADay

Last month, our oldest daughter, Addie, accompanied me on a special trip to the North American Headquarters of Nintendo, nestled into the wooded Seattle suburb of Redmond, Washington. While Addie loved it and made memories that will last a lifetime, for me the visit rekindled some feelings from the past - a kid who grew up a Nintendo loyalist and had a few different Nintendo Christmases. The original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and it's successor, the Super NES (SNES) were both Christmas gifts... and in 1997, my future wife and I both presented each other with wrapped Nintendo 64 (N64) systems under the tree. This year, nostalgia is mighty, and as Nintendo looks ahead to the 2017 release of their new Switch gaming system, there's much fun to be had, with plenty of Nintendo goodness available right now, and perfect for last-minute gifting. And it all swings back to the beginning...

This past summer, Illumination Entertainment's The Secret Life of Pets proved to be one of the year's biggest surprises for us. A box office smash, we saw the film at the drive-in, enjoying it alongside hundreds of families under the stars, and the film took its spot as one of 2016's best in the eyes of The Rock Daughters. I loved it, too - more than I expected, if only for the prissy poodle Leonard rockin' out to System of a Down the second that his owner (voiced by Project Runway's Tim Gunn) was out the door. With the film home on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD just in-time for the holidays, this tale of what our pets do when we're not around has secured a spot in my 2016 Holiday Wish Guide - a perfect last-minute gift, along with some fun toys as well!

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® & Armor All but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #ArmorAllGiftPack http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

Ever since I purchased my first car as a teen, I've loved spending time keeping my cars looking great. From the beginning, Armor All has been a fixture in that mission, and over the years I've been thrilled not only to receive an Armor All Car Care Gift Pack - but to gift them as well. It's a quick-and-easy gift that's great to give and receive - all the gear one needs to make it through another season. As a parent, it's also been awesome to see our girls get into it as well, always eager to help mommy and daddy keep the big cars clean, but also to wash their kid-rides as well. Since it's like -10° here at Rock Father HQ right now, let's think about warmer times...

Holiday Wish Guide: Disney's Elena of Avalor

Presented in Partnership with The Walt Disney Company...

One of the most inspiring new series' for kids to emerge in the past year is Disney's Elena of Avalor. The first Latin-inspired Disney Princess was an immediate hit, quickly becoming a fixture at Disney Parks, and becoming one of Disney Channel's most-watched animated shows. After being held captive in the Amulet of Avalor for over four decades, Elena was freed by Sofia the First and has returned to her kingdom as a brave and adventurous teenager who must now learn to rule as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen. As kids follow Elena's journey, they see the adventure unfold as she learns her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders. With Elena of Avalor: Ready to Rule now available on DVD, here's a look at some great gift ideas as part of my 2016 Holiday Wish Guide!
