The 1970s and 1980s were without a doubt the "Golden Age" of COLORFORMS for kids like me. Aside from the classic peel-and-stick vinyl variety of reusable transfers and backgrounds, I distinctly remember my cousins and I having a ton of fun with the Rub n' Play transfer sets where you could make scenes from shows like KNIGHT RIDER and MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE by using a pencil and some imagination.  While the Rub n' Play has been gone for awhile, Colorforms has changed hands a few times over the years, most recently finding a home with Out of the Blue Enterprises - a company co-founded by someone I've mentioned before here on the site, Angela C. Santomero, creator of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD, WISHENPOOF!, SUPER WHY! and more. Just in-time for the Holiday Giving Season, Colorforms are back in a big way, with three types of sets: Take Along (MSRP $5.99) Create A Story ($9.99) and Big Wall Playsets ($24.99). Like the sets of years ago, Colorforms feature licensed characters from some of today's biggest pop culture icons like MINIONS, FROZEN, THE AVENGERS, DOC McSTUFFINS, PAW Patrol, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES and SPIDER-MAN.

With our oldest daughter, Addie being so into science these days, I was excited when SMART ANATOMY by Oregon Scientific hit retailers this fall. Since she's become so inquisitive about how things work - including the body, we've spent quite a bit of time at the library, checking out books based on some specific things. For a few months, she was obsessed with eyes - she wanted to know every piece of them, and how each of them worked. Then it was the heart, and the pattern has continued. With Smart Anatomy, kids can delve deep inside a visual and highly interactive depiction of the human body, with removable parts and a smart pen that activates a wealth of information covering healthy eating habits, bones, organs, muscles and more. "Alex" is the face of Smart Anatomy, and with two faceplates included, Alex can be a boy or a girl.

After more than two decades of saving the world from all manner of evildoer or fantastic beast, Saban's POWER RANGERS are closing out 2015 on a high note, and will enter 2016 with the promise of new adventures and tidbits about the all-new live-action movie that will arrive in 2017. Over the years, the POWER RANGERS have been known for embracing the holidays, with special episodes based around Halloween and Christmas, and appearances at events like Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which again this year featured the MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS' Red Ranger working his way through the streets of New York as a massive balloon. With Christmas just two weeks away, THE ROCK FATHER Magazine's 2015 Holiday Wish Guide is presenting to you some ideas for how to enjoy A Very POWER RANGERS Christmas & A DINO CHARGE'd New Year!

When it comes to the holidays, one of the most classic gifts you can possibly give is a baby doll. New York's Goldberger Toys has been making dolls since 1916, and their mission is to make "cherished playthings" and "treasured friends" that are high quality, yet affordable for all. One of their latest offerings is a new, yet still very classic spin on their Baby's First Doll - the Baby's First Classic Talking Bottle Baby. Kids often want a doll that features realistic sounds and features, but in a lot of cases (which my wife and I have experienced),  those features can make the dolls cumbersome by adding in electronics. Goldberger solved that problem by giving kids what they want, but with the "feeding sounds" coming from the bottle... not the doll, meaning that the doll can still get wet and be snuggled without any of the risk involved with battery-powered electronics.

What are Num Noms? That was the first question that most people ask when they hear the name - something that happened repeatedly when The Rock Daughters and I did a live unboxing of MGA Entertainment's latest collectible toy line via Periscope. Officially launched on December 1, 2015 at Toys "R" Us (though we did see some hitting the shelves locally a bit early), the collectible characters are scented, pretend food that combines multiple play patterns into something new. Scented like Strawberry Shortcake... tiny collectibles like Shopkins... motorized like Hexbugs... in their own colorful world like Lalaloopsy. It's not hard to have all of those elements (and more) hit the senses, but out of the gate Num Noms are a kid-magnet, the latest creation from MGA Entertainment, makers of Project Mc2, Moxie Girls, Bratz and Lalaloopsy.
