TFWe've got quite a few of Hasbro's KRE-O sets here at Rock Father HQ, KRE-O being their spin on the building brick category (technically, "Oxford Bricks" re-branded for the U.S.), and "compatible with major brands," which means that they can be mixed-and-matched with LEGO, Mega Bloks, C3, you name it. I've even reviewed a few KRE-O sets here on the site, and one of the earliest came from the TRANSFORMERS assortment. Now, with TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION obliterating the box office, there's some new sets, and Hasbro sent us a couple to check out. Here's my thoughts...

I first mentioned the KRE-O CityVille Invasion line of building sets here on The Rock Father back in August, and as part of my 31 Days of Halloween, it's time to show off one of the most seasonally-appropriate of the bunch: The Haunted Hideaway. Given to me by Hasbro during a recent Holiday Toys lunch here in Chicago, this 317-piece building set was irresistible to my four year-old, despite being advertised for ages 7+. Straight-away, she wanted to build "the haunted house," and that secured it a spot here as Day 16.

Last Friday night, my friends from Hasbro invited me down to The Hard Rock Cafe (oddly appropriate location) in Chicago for a special #HasbroParty. There, bloggers like myself got to go hands-on with some new and upcoming offerings like the new NERF Rebelle line, Furby Boom, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, TRANSFORMERS Rescue Bots, and more. While there was plenty of play to be had, it was hard not to notice that the bar had been completely taken over by the KRE-O CITYVILLE INVASION. Now, we're already fans of the KRE-O line (check out this STAR TREK review), but I wasn't really familiar with this whole "CityVille" deal until a bartender in full-on zombie makeup served me a vodka-heavy "Zombie Punch" from the KRE-O inspired drink menu.

Last month, when I was down in Miami for the PBS Annual Meeting, the folks from Hasbro beamed an assortment of their new STAR TREK KRE-O sets to Rock Father HQ back in Illinois. For the few days that I was out-of-town, and a few days after I got back... a white crate with the familiar "STAR TREK" logo was sitting in my office, taunting my oldest daughter, Addie - who just couldn't wait to dig in. I never expected it to happen so early, but Addie and I also had to have the talk...

The American International Toy Fair will begin this weekend in New York, and while The Rock Father won't be there in-person (maybe next year), the news continues rolling in here at Rock Father HQ. HASBRO will be rolling out a ton of new toys this weekend, and this morning I've got a preview of new offerings for kids of all-ages. With iconic brands like TRANSFORMERS, MY LITTLE PONY, STAR WARS, G.I. JOE, PLAY-DOH, FURBY, BABY ALIVE, TWISTER, and ANGRY BIRDS represented, there's a little something for everyone. Check out some highlights below.

TRANSFORMERS... oh how I love thee. As a child of the 80s, TRANSFORMERS were a staple of my youth and their influence continues. Sitting to my left as I type this is a one-of-a-kind OPTIMUS PRIME that I got for doing a little viral video for G4's ATTACK OF THE SHOW back in 2007. My point? There's always a TRANSFORMER nearby here at Rock Father HQ. My oldest daughter is just starting to recognize the primary characters in the TF universe, and while it's been a little G1 action peppered with some RESCUE BOTS, she's starting to know what's up. Hence, it was a lot of fun building the new "BATTLE FOR ENERGON" set from Hasbro's TRANSFORMERS Kre-O line.
