GUITAR HERO LIVEOh, how I've missed the classic era of music gaming... and in the Fall of 2015, The New Era of Music Gaming is officially upon us. Just a month after the official announcement that Harmonix was bringing ROCK BAND 4 to stores, Activision has unleashed the first taste of GUITAR HERO LIVE, signaling the return of a rivalry that spanned the music gaming heyday. Where ROCK BAND will be emphasising the "band" (something that GUITAR HERO got into with WORLD TOUR), it looks like Activision and developer FreeStyleGames are taking GUITAR HERO back to it's roots - focusing just on guitar - but with a whole new gaming experience. Check out the details below, including the first-look teaser, and a peek at the new guitar controller...

The rumors are true. As I speculated back in January, ROCK BAND 4 is real, and it's coming in 2015. The game franchise that became the reason I got an Xbox 360 (thanks, Jen!) and learned to drum (modestly) is now going to be the game that becomes the reason I end up getting Microsoft's XBOX ONE. More details will be revealed in May (expect a Fall release, if not sooner), but I have the full announcement from Harmonix, who is partnering with Mad Catz for the new game. Check it out!

Could Harmonix really be releasing the "next-gen" version of ROCK BAND this year? Rumors have been swirling since last fall that ROCK BAND 4 (though that may not be the title) is in-the-works, and last week it appeared that the waters were being tested when the ROCK BAND Music Store on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 "sprung to life" after nearly two years of dormancy following the final DLC release back in April of 2013 (which I wrote about here). New tracks from AVENGED SEVENFOLD and ARCTIC MONKEYS arrived for ROCK BAND alongside FOO FIGHTERS' "Something From Nothing" (aka the "Chicago" song from SONIC HIGHWAYS), presented in the classic vocals/guitar/bass/drums format of earlier releases. So the question is... do YOU want a new ROCK BAND game? And if so, would you make your voice heard?

Today is the day that I've been mentioning with every ROCK BAND DLC update for the past couple of months. After more than five years... 281 consecutive weeks... April 2, 2013 will be remembered as "The Day the Music Died." With the addition of DON McLEAN's 1971 hit "American Pie," weekly DLC for the ROCK BAND platform of games comes to an end, and Harmonix just hit The Rock Father with a special, 4-minute video entitled THE STORY OF ROCK BAND. Watch it below.

There's only three weeks of regularly-scheduled DLC for ROCK BAND before it all comes to an end after an impressive run lasting more than five years (unheard of in the gaming world). For those of you still rockin' the plastic instruments with your friends and family, this Tuesday brings a collection of songs from KOOL & THE GANG, TEARS FOR FEARS, and SHINEDOWN to the platform. Harmonix sent over the updates, and I've got them posted on The Rock Father for you below...

As the final countdown continues leading up to the April 2 end of ROCK BAND DLC after an impressive run of more than five years, there's a few more songs yet to hit the platform. This Tuesday brings a pair of hits from the 1980s, with the OINGO BOINGO classic "Weird Science" along with the cheesy TOTO hit "Rosanna" coming to the platform. Full details below...
