I love hearing stories about how others are doing good, and when it comes to the world of play, there's little better than hearing about the creative ways that toymakers are giving back. I wrote a little bit about that in one of my recent columns over at The Toy Insider, and today I've got another story to share - this one from a true American icon: Radio Flyer. Their iconic little red wagon has brought joy to millions of children over the last 100 years, and as they point out, those "wagons have been used to carry stuffed animals, toys, books, friends and more for countless hours of playtime" But they've also been used by children and adults alike to lift the spirits of others – and Radio Flyer is celebrating these acts of kindness in honor of National Little Red Wagon Day. With their new "Wagons for Good" sweepstakes, you could even receive a donation of 100 wagons to be given to the organization of your choice!
The latest addition to the "I wish they had this when I was a kid" department here at Rock Father HQ comes from Radio Flyer, who've just announced their Star Wars Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder Ride-on toy. Geared toward kids ages 4+, this two-seater hits a top speed of 5mph, and bears a weight limit of 130 lbs. Modeled after the iconic X-34 craft from 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope, this ride features an interactive dashboard with movie-accurate lights and sounds, and provides the perfect craft for chasing down your pesky run-away R2 unit. Just watch out for Sandpeople, though - the Jundland Wastes are not to be traveled lightly, and Tusken Raiders often travel single file to hide their numbers. See the Radio Flyer Landspeeder in action below!
It's Chicago Toy & Game Week, and that means we're once again counting down the days until the annual Chicago Toy & Game Fair (ChiTAG) once again takes over Navy Pier. Kids and families can go hands-on with some of this year's hottest holiday toys, get a jump on shopping, or simply come out to play! Tickets are on-sale now (Click here to register with a $3 Off Coupon) for Saturday & Sunday, November 19 & 20, and as we look toward what aims to be the biggest year yet, I'm throwing down some "Rock Father Picks" for what to check out. I've done this in the past, but this year is the first that we've made it official - I'm a 2016 "Play Influencer!"
