Last month, the team at Hasbro (NASDAQ: HAS) invited kids and fans of their TRANSFORMERS line to help in crafting an all-new character through their "Fan Built Bot" promotion. Round One has completed, and the Second and Final Round of Voting is now in effect. This all-new character will be revealed at the summer's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), after which it will become a permanent fixture in the world of TRANSFORMERS with a place in the TRANSFORMERS: Thrilling 30 line of toys in 2014.
STAR WARS is returning to it's roots... with production returning to the UK. While all of the previous six "episodic" films all had production activites take place in the UK at one time, the original trilogy (Episodes IV-VI) had a major connection there. The kid in me (who as an adult, sits under the shadow of an AT-AT in his office) is pretty excited.
From the original ATARI STAR WARS to the fantastic SNES SUPER STAR WARS series and into the current generation, I've spent more than a little time playing STAR WARS video games. What can I say? The Force is strong with me, and like many of you - I was disappointed to hear that Lucasarts was recently shuttered. While millions of voices may have cried out in terror about the news, today comes word that ELECTRONIC ARTS has been selected to pick up the lightsaber and run with it for the future of STAR WARS gaming.
A few weeks back, the folks at Hasbro asked if we'd like to check out some new offerings from their ANGRY BIRDS STAR WARS line here in the state-of-the-art Toy Testing Facility at Rock Father HQ. Being quite the STAR WARS fan, there was no way to refuse the request of The Empire. A few days later, an Imperial Courier arrived at HQ in a large, brown speeder. His package? A box loaded with fresh toys and games to check out.
I am a STAR WARS aficionado. Those that are regular readers of The Rock Father know this. I've been known to "teach The Force"; I once worked on a film called "5-25-77"; I recorded a viral song called "Darth Vader is a Real Cool Guy!" that appeared on TheForce.net over a decade ago; I once had such a large STAR WARS toy collection that it required it's own room (since sold); and I was one of 19 Dad Bloggers that took park in "The Definitive White Paper on When to Expose Your Children to STAR WARS." Yes, The Force is strong with this one, so when the folks at Hasbro asked me if I'd like to help distribute some new toys and games from their ANGRY BIRDS STAR WARS line in honor of STAR WARS DAY (May the 4th), there was no way to resist.
Regular readers of The Rock Father know that I'm a sucker for pop culture - especially for the stuff I grew up on in the 80s. Now, the folks at Silva Screen Records have tapped into that again with the release of 100 GREATEST TV THEMES VOLUME 3, a four-disc, 100-track collection of songs ranging from the recent to the classic. These are new recordings performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, London Music Works and Michigan Music Works. Take a look at the tracklisting below...
