PBS KIDS VIPThe 2014 Rock Father Tour hits the road and takes to the sky again this week, as I head back to the West Coast on another adventure. One of the best parts of my job is a side-gig that I've had with PBS as a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent). Having written about PBS programming for quite awhile before we made any kind of formal connection, it's been a real honor to work the the folks from PBS KIDS over the past two years, helping to spread the word about quality, educational programming. Last year was the first year that I'd been invited to attend the PBS Annual Meeting (then in Miami), and this year I've been invited back, as we "get the band back together" and hit the streets of San Francisco to get the rundown and game plan for the next year of PBS programming and events.

The Rock Father is a member of the Netflix Stream TeamThrowback Thursday: That weekly celebration of those old photos, life experiences and more often than not, a look back at our youth. As a member of the Netflix Stream Team, one thing that I've noticed is that all of those things can come into play, which is why I'm doing a #TBT Edition Netflix post this week, and while I highlight a few throwbacks worth watching, I'll also give you a shot to score three months of streaming for FREE... and let you know how you can find ME on Netflix. What? You thought that THE ROCK FATHER was only existing in your computer? Nope, I'm on Netflix, too!

It's an in-between week for new family media titles, with some decent stuff hitting retail but no single "blockbuster" title to lead the charge. But that doesn't mean that the offerings aren't worth a look, as there's a trio of new DVDs from SESAME STREET along with BEWARE THE BATMAN, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, GARFIELD, DR. SUESS and a bunch of bargain-priced reissues. And, if you'd like to "Think Spring," there's new Easter titles from PETER RABBIT, PETER COTTONTAIL, and Nickelodeon's DORA THE EXPLORER. Here's what's hitting the streets today, February 18, 2014.

PBS KIDS VIPEven before becoming a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) Blogger in 2013, the entertaining and educational programming offered by PBS KIDS was already a daily staple here in our home. From CAILLOU to CURIOUS GEORGE, DINOSAUR TRAIN to SESAME STREET, there's a lot of great shows and specials that are now available to view anytime on DVD. They're great gifts, and perfect stocking stuffers, and that lands them firmly in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER...

PBS KIDS VIPOn November 27th, the Holiday Season kicks off on PBS KIDS with the return of THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT CHRISTMAS! - the smash hit that scored big with families last year, with over 3.6 million tuning in, and another 27 million streams! From there, PBS KIDS will be presenting all-new Holiday episodes of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD and THOMAS & FRIENDS, along with the new SESAME STREET special, ELMO'S CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN. Pair those with encore presentations of Holiday favorites from CURIOUS GEORGE, ARTHUR, and SHALOM SESAME, and the season certainly looks bright. I've got the full run-down on all the PBS KIDS goodies, right here on THE ROCK FATHER. Start setting those DVRs!

Earlier this month, the residents of SESAME STREET kicked off their 44th season on PBS KIDS, welcoming a new neighbor to the 'Street with the addition of 'Mando (who I met and did a video with - along with Rosita - earlier this year). This week, some familiar faces stopped by LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON, where they joined Fallon and The Roots to perform a new version of the iconic "Sesame Street" Theme Song... with classroom instruments. Watch the video below to see just how hard BIG BIRD, MR. SNUFFLEUPAGUS, COUNT VON COUNT, ELMO, ABBY CADABBY, GROVER, MURRAY, GROVER, ZOE, and COOKIE MONSTER rock out with the LATE NIGHT crew. It's probably the best thing you'll see all week.
