It was earlier this year at The Toy Insider's HoliDAY of Play where I got my first-hand look at what would become the most sought-after toy for the 2016 Holiday season - Spin Master's Hatchimals. With a Global public unveiling scheduled for October 7 (dubbed "Hatchimals Day"), I'd been invited to take part in the action - something that travel prevented, but with a pair of Hatchimals having arrived at Rock Father HQ for review, I still prepped our own "Hatching Party." With supplies allegedly dwindling, I've held off on posting our video until now - a hands-on example of just what Hatchimals are all about, capturing the excitement of the Hatching, but also taking a look at the craze... and how to find your very own Hatchimal! First-off, let's take a look at what Hatchimals are all about...

There's a new way for kids to save the day in Adventure Bay, with the PAW Patrol Zoomer Pups from Spin Master! While many folks have seen Zoomer Marshall out there, as I previously reported here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, Spin Master also produced a pair of exclusives - with Zoomer Skye available at Toys "R" Us, and Zoomer Everest available at Target.  We had Marshall and Skye sent to us for review here at Rock Father HQ, and what better way is there to show-off some of 2016's hottest holiday toys than to show them in-action - being played with? Take a look...

Earlier this Fall, I shared with you my review of the PAW Patrol Lookout Climber from The Step2 Company. Living in a house where the Pups of Adventure Bay tend to dominate play, I was pretty excited to learn that Step2 had partnered with Spin Master for this piece. No doubt the biggest PAW Patrol toy made thus far, and one in which kids can put themselves directly into the famed Lookout - the base of operations for Ryder and the Pups, this climber is recommended for kids ages 1½-5, and is available now as a Toys "R" Us Exclusive. I'd pegged this as an early pick for my 2016 Holiday Wish Guide back in September, and now I'm excited to give you a chance to win one! The Step2 Company and THE ROCK FATHER Magazine have teamed-up for a Holiday Wish Guide Giveaway in which one lucky family will receive the PAW Patrol Lookout Climber!

As the saying goes... it's the calm before the storm. It's a feeling that I've felt before, and over the past few years, I've become pretty good at picking out the the new shows and toys that kids are going to be all about in the months ahead. This week comes the official launch of what will likely become your kids' next obsession: Rusty Rivets.  From Spin Master Entertainment (the team behind PAW Patrol) comes a new series on Nick Jr., making its formal premiere at 1pm ET on Tuesday, November 8th - this following a special summer preview back in August (appropriately paired with a PAW Patrol special event) and a soft launch on the digital apps. Designed for preschoolers and beyond - Rusty Rivets teaches some STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts, but is inspired by the growing DIY "maker culture," as 10-year-old Rusty and best friend Ruby, "Combine It and Design It" - using imagination and creativity to help solve problems. Having watched a few episodes already, I feel confident in telling you that Rusty Rivets is about to be big. Check out a preview...

No job is too big...No pup is too small, and now the pups of Adventure Bay have a new mission! PAW Patrol has teamed-up with Canine Companions for Independence®, a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities with highly trained assistance dogs. Together they'll be raising awareness and funds for placing specially-trained assistance dogs with the people who need them. Check out the new PSA below!

After what felt like a little bit of a lull, the past couple of years have delivered some fantastic new ways to foster hands-on creativity. One company that's been leading the charge is Spin Master (an outfit whom you've no doubt heard me mention on occasion), and this year they've got a new spin on creative play with Bunchems Alive!, the latest iteration of Bunchems - winner of the coveted 2016 Activity Toy of the Year Award, presented by the Toy Industry Association. These little balls stick together, allowing for endless possibilities in what kids can create. Squish, connect and create the creatures, characters, structures and vehicles shown on the box, or just free-form to create your own - this is open-ended imaginative play... with NO MESS. And now, with Bunchems Alive!, kids can add motion to their creations, bringing a whole new element into some already rockin' play.
