Toy FairUPDATE: Check THIS out! The PAW Patrol Lookout Climber!

Spin Master has really done a fantastic job with their PAW Patrol line, building out a world around the hit Nick Jr. series, and releasing some really great toys to support it. Undoubtedly one of the big favorites here at Rock Father HQ, the PAW Patrol toys are not just appreciated by The Rock Daughters, but by yours truly as well. They're well-made, fun, and there's just a spirit of adventure built into them. With the recent AIR RESCUE episode helping to launch a small sub-line this past month (Finley keeps asking for the Air Patroller), Spin Master entered the North American International Toy Fair armed with a full portfolio of new toys - figures, vehicles and playsets - along with some new offerings that support some different play patterns. What adventures lie ahead in 2016? PAW Patrol is going Medieval at some point, but they're also having a Jungle Adventure, with a new pup named Tracker joining the crew, along with his human friend, Carlos. Let's take a peek...

As it was once written: "For centuries, the Legend of Santa Claus has evolved. From Saint Nicholas to Kris Kringle, Father Christmas to simply, Santa - this mysterious giver has taken many forms, appearing throughout the world under countless names to delight and inspire families by doing for others each and every holiday season. For many, the spirit of “Claus” is held within, a shining light that burns with the desire to do for others, particularly for those less fortunate."

When I became "The Rock Father" upon the birth of our first daughter back in 2009, I had no idea where the road of parenthood would lead. Eventually it became clear that my path is branching, and just as becoming a parent led to the birth of this digital magazine - this site led to the opportunity to do more. My job has allowed me to do some good our local community, and last year the opportunity arose to partner with General Motors and OnStar to hit the road to do some "Black Friday Shopping for Good" - the end result of which provided gifts for 37 children across 15 families right here in our township. Regardless of sponsorship, I made a decision that we'd do it again this year - and bigger, if possible. The Rock Daughters and I began amassing gifts in our garage, and as the holiday season began, we started ramping up a bit. Then, I'm happy to say that we partnered with Chevrolet and OnStar once more, and for 2015 #ChevyShopsForGood!

This weekend, the 13th annual Chicago Toy and Game Fair (ChiTAG) returns to Navy Pier in Chicago for two days of fun, Saturday, November 21, 2015 and Sunday, November 22, 2015. Having covered ChiTAG extensively here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine for the past four years of its run, I've taken a look at this year's schedule and floor plan to highlight five things that we're looking forward to this weekend. With hundreds of participants, there's some familiar faces and some fresh ones that will be exhibiting some of 2015's hottest toys and games (several of which are in my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide), appropriately just ahead of Thanksgiving Week and the infamous Black Friday shopping kick-off. Here's a few things to check out... and yes, there will be STAR WARS.

If your little ones have been watching LITTLE CHARMERS on Nick Jr., there's a solid chance that you already know that the overwhelming message is one of friendship. In Charmville, Hazel, Posie and Lavender are three Charmers-in-training that teach kids the merits of teamwork and friendship as they work to use their newfound magical powers to cast "charms." Things don't always go as planned, and that's part of the charm - just like real kids sometimes learn by trial and error. Just in-time for the gifting season, Spin Master has released a new assortment of Little Charmers toys that are featured picks in my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine.

Netflix Stream TeamWho could've predicted that Netflix - a company known for shipping movies on DVD in little red envelopes - would evolve into a streaming giant and bastion of original content that would proudly carry a flag for resurrecting retired pop culture icons? While it was probably never predicted, that's just what happened, and Netflix has become a home for reimaginings of DANGER MOUSE, FULL HOUSE (FULLER HOUSE), INSPECTOR GADGET and CARE BEARS (CARE BEARS & COUSINS). The latest characters from my youth to become a Netflix Original Series are the POPPLES, brought back by Saban Brands and launched with a five-episode inaugural season. I remember these little creatures fondly - cuddly little munchkins that could roll into a furball, and then "POP!" back open into upright-standing, long-tailed, brightly-colored bear-like creatures. Like all good fruits of the 80s, they once had an animated series and a robust toyline - originally spawned by American Greetings, the same folks that brought forth Strawberry Shortcake and the Care Bears. Three decades later, POPPLES are back, and thanks to Spin Master, they're back in the toy aisle as well - as a Walmart Exclusive for the Holiday Season.

If you've been checking out the annual lists of 2015's Hottest Holiday Toys, one item that's been consistently appearing is Spin Master's PAW Patroller - the rolling command center from the hit Nickelodeon series, PAW Patrol. The PAW Patroller is making an appearance on my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine as well - and I'm declaring it to be not just one of the hottest toys of the season, but one of the year's best overall. After going hands-on with our review sample for over a month as of this writing, the PAW Patroller has proven itself to be worthy of its acclaim - a perfect mix of vehicle and playset, and while it's scored big with The Rock Daughters, it recently hit me that it's sort of a toy that I've been waiting for... since 1982.
