After being so into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles myself back when the original cartoon series aired in the late 80s, and the subsequent movies hit screens, I'm regularly reminded at how awesome it is to have two little girls that are so into Ninja Turtles nearly 30 years later. The TMNT resurgence shows no signs of stopping, with the hit animated series on Nickelodeon bringing new adventure on a regular basis, and Paramount Pictures' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows keeping the live-action adventure alive. Since the beginning, the folks at Playmates Toys have been releasing a fantastic assortment of action figures, vehicles, and playsets, and at the pinnacle of each collection has been the Ninja Turtles Sewer Lair. Like their go-to vehicle (whether it be a Party Wagon, Shellraiser or the recent "Turtle Tactical Truck"), their home base has gone through many evolutions, the latest of which is a reworked version of their Sewer Lair Playset, this one themed for Out of the Shadows

When you think of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, certain elements tend to stand out more than others, and one of those things is Pizza! Ask any kid to tell you what a Ninja Turtle eats, and it's pretty much guaranteed that they'll only be able to give you one answer. Over the years, there have been many cross-promotional TMNT pizza tie-ins, with a Domino's driver appearing in the 1990 film, a mention of Pizza Hut in the 2014 film, and even frozen pizzas sold on the East Coast by Ellio's that were TMNT-branded. First-released last fall as a tie-in for the hit Nickelodeon TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES series, Wicked Cool Toys' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Oven lets kids made their own, personal, snack-sized pizzas pretty-much from scratch!

Out of all the toys released for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS, the Turtle Tactical Truck by Playmates Toys is by far my personal favorite. While I was a fan of the 2014 Turtle Assault Van (reviewed here) from the last film (a vehicle that The Rock Daughters™ still play with regularly), the 2016 Tactical Truck is just better on every possible level. In the last film, the Van showed up briefly at the end - almost an afterthought, while this year's Tactical Truck (a converted NYC Garbage Truck) is featured heavily. Over the years there have been many Turtle vehicles including Shellraisers and Party Vans, but perhaps none has been as real-world plausible, or functional as this one, even as a toy. The folks at Playmates sent us one for review, so we had to hit the streets with it...

It's no secret that I'm a fan of the original Peel-and-Stick Colorforms (though I really wish the Rub n' Play would make a comeback), so it's cool to see Colorforms into their second year of new ownership, increasing their availability and rockin' with some new licenses. With TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS bringing the TMNT crew back into cinemas, it's only fitting that we take a look at what Colorforms is doing with TMNT - specifically, sets based on the smash-hit Nickelodeon series. With numerous sets available, we're focusing on the biggest one... the Big Wall Playset.

When it comes to a great toy collection, it often seems like toymakers forget that the vehicles and playsets are a key part of the lasting appeal (something G.I. JOE and MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE absolutely dominated when I was a kid). The folks at Playmates Toys' haven't lost sight of that, and over the years they've done a fine job of making sure that their Basic Action Figure Assortments are complimented with plenty of rides and environments to help kids keep those big adventures going. For TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS, there's a new assortment of motorcycles hitting the streets, each paired with an exclusive action figure. Let's take a look...

"FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SEWER... the the top of the toy charts," that was how Playmates Toys' described the success of their 1988 launch of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Action Figures, Vehicles and Role-play. It was 28 years ago that the long-running, yet little-known toymaker burst into the action figure aisle with a small assortment of figures based upon the "classic" TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES animated series, which made its debut as a five-part miniseries in late 1987 prior to going full-steam-ahead as a Saturday morning cartoon in the Fall of 1988. In fact, like many toys of the era, the TV series and toys went hand-in-hand, with the series designed to sell toys, despite the fact that TMNT was based on the much darker 1984 comic book series. As the 30th Anniversary of the TMNT toys approaches on the horizon, the 'Turtles have gone through numerous incarnations across every medium, but at its core the basic action figures remain the heart of the brand when it comes to play. When the TMNT brand relaunched in 2012 with the Nickelodeon series, the 'Turtles were quickly back on top and a live-action movie soon followed, making its theatrical debut in the summer of 2014. Now, with the release of the second live-action movie in the new series hitting screens, it's time to take a look at the Basic Action Figure assortment from TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS!
