Here at Rock Father HQ, we really dig the assortment of toys offered by Ty's Toy Box. Well, the folks at Ty's Toy Box just got in touch with The Rock Father with a Holiday Coupon Code offering 15% Off your order, along with the full list of their Top 10 Best Sellers for 2012. What are the kids into this year? Check it out...

With all the recent political rumblings about the funding of PBS, the importance and value of public broadcasting has been the subject of much discussion. As I've noted many times here in the past, the educational programming of PBS KIDS is a daily staple here in The Rock Father house. While I grew up on SESAME STREET, my daughters are learning not only from the familiar characters that inhabit the 'Street, but also from PBS KIDS fixtures like CAILLOU, SUPER WHY!, WORDWORLD, and my 3-year-old's new favorite show (practically an obsession), DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD. They're far from alone, as September ratings are out and reveal that six of the top ten shows among youngsters ages 2-5 are on PBS KIDS.

This past Friday, the little one and I took a little road trip to Wilmot, Wisconsin. About 30 minutes from Rock Father HQ in Illinois, Wilmot is home to more than a 'Mountain,' but also a warehouse for AMERICAN GIRL, and THE MATTEL TOY STORE. I'd found the latter by accident last year while heading up to Twin Lakes for a rock show. After coming back home, I hit Google to find out just what exactly I'd seen out there on that dark, Fall night. While turning a corner, I spotted a plain white sign that read 'The Mattel Toy Store.' Sure enough, the toy maker operates their own chain of stand-alone stores in special locations around the country. A few months ago, we made the trip for the first time. On Friday, we went back.

hitLogoMy daughter loves most of the shows put out by UK-based HIT Entertainment, and currently aired here in the U.S. on SPROUT. There's FIREMAN SAM, BOB THE BUILDER, ANGELINA BALLERINA, BARNEY, and the big-money machine - THOMAS & FRIENDS. Today comes news that toymaker MATTEL has purchased HIT Entertainment for $680M (less than it was going for) rescuing the company from a vast amount of debt (and probably mis-management).
