This Friday, March 4, is the third annual ACTION FIGURE WORK DAY. Now, you might hear it called "Bring Your Action Figure to Work Day" or "Take Your Action Figure to Work Day," but it's all the same thing, and what's important is that you do, indeed, take or bring an action figure to work. In addition to spreading the joy of toys and collectibles, you should take a picture of your figure in it's new working environment, and then tag said picture on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest) with both tags: #AFWDatEE and #AFWD2016. See for me, I take action figures to work every day, but for you... well, this is an opportunity to win some cool prizes that my friends at Entertainment Earth will be dishing out at random. Prizes like the EE-Exclusive GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Comic Edition MARVEL Legends Action Figure Set by Hasbro - a $119.99 value.

The Step2 Company Ultimate Spring Toy Giveaway!

http://www.step2.com/As of this writing, the official start of Spring is just a few short weeks away. While the season brings with it some much-needed freshness and color to the landscape, it's also a huge time for new toys, and this year my friends at The Step2 Company are launching a stellar lineup of toys (and some fun furniture, too). If you're already familiar with Step2, you'll recognize some upgraded versions of a few old favorites (a HOT WHEELS Coaster!; a Z06 Corvette Bed!) but there's also some totally new offerings (a Bubble Table!; a two-level Water Table!), and for the first-time ever, Step2 has collaborated with Disney for a series of FINDING DORY Water Tables. To celebrate the coming of warmer weather and outdoor play, Step2 and THE ROCK FATHER Magazine are giving readers winning the new toy of their choice. One (1) winner can choose the item they'd most like from the list below...

Big News for Barbie as "The Doll Evolves"

I'm a big fan of the icons, but sometimes even the most established brand comes to a point where evolution is an absolute necessity. For Mattel's BARBIE line, evolution is something perhaps long-overdue - a result of changing times and ideals, and even Mattel admits (in a video on TIME) that today's announcement comes partially-rooted in what's most important to shareholders - sales have been slumping, and something had to be done. For the past two years, in a time when Barbie has gone through much scrutiny, behind-the-scenes a team of around 20 people at Mattel were hard at work on a secret initiative called "Project: Dawn." The result is the biggest change in Barbie ever - a new line of Fashonistas that feature 4 body types (three new: Curvy, Tall and Petite), 7 skin tones, 22 eye colors, 24 hairstyles, and countless on-trend fashions and accessories. Take a look at the introductory video...

Two days ago, Tom Burns of 8-Bit Dad weighed in on the usual hard-to-find nature of female action figures by making an off-the-cuff remark about the future availability of toys from Director Paul Fieg's GHOSTBUSTERS. The new film starring Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones is out July 15 via Columbia Pictures/Sony, and from the looks of things, next month's annual Toy Fair International in New York City should have no shortage of GHOSTBUSTERS goodness. According to Fieg on twitter, pretty much all of the current licensees for classic GHOSTBUSTERS merch (based on the 1984 film and its 1989 sequel) are in the mix - LEGO, Diamond Select, Funko, and more - and will be producing over 20 figures in various sizes and styles. The first batch to be revealed? Mattel's 6" line of articulated figures. Take a look...

With STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS blasting into theaters this weekend, a new generation of fans will soon be looking forward to re-living the adventure, and making new adventures of their own with some of the latest toys from a galaxy far, far away. Just in-time for the film's release and the holiday season, Thinkway Toys has released a full assortment of highly interactive figures and vehicles based on THE FORCE AWAKENS, and the classic Original Trilogy. While we don't yet have these here at Rock Father HQ, the girls and I did check them out a bit on a recent visit to Toys "R" Us, and believe me - the interest was piqued. Between my love for AT-AT and my girls' love of Droids and Kylo Ren, it certainly looks like Thinkway is onto something. Check out the preview videos in the player below, and look for these at your local TRU location, or online at ToysRUs.com.

Back in June, I took some of the then-just-released ANT-MAN toys from my personal collection to the press junket for MARVEL's ANT-MAN in Los Angeles. It was there that many of the cast members (including Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey StollMichael Douglas, T.I., Michael Pena and David Dastmalchian) got their first look at they toys from their debut entry into the MARVEL Cinematic Universe. One of the biggest hits was my Funko Pop! Vinyl Yellowjacket, which put a huge smile on Corey Stoll's face before the interviews got started. What I didn't find until after the junket was a Pop! Vinyl Ant-Man, and now the little guy is back with one of the film's most unexpectedly-popular co-stars... ANT-THONY. This December, Funko will release an ANT-MAN and ANT-THONY Pop! RIDES 2-Pack, available for pre-order now via my friends at Entertainment Earth.
