It's a bummer that seemingly came out of nowhere this afternoon, the news that Disney is exiting the video games publishing business and shutting down Disney Infinity following the upcoming release of figures from ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS and FINDING DORY. Shocking as it may seem, I can't say I'm terribly surprised, as the hints of a crash have been coming - the "toys-to-life" gaming category having already peaked, its shelf life already dwindling. We've seen this before, with trends like music gaming dominating retail aisles with massive interactive displays and an ever-growing array of hardware, games and accessories. Eventually, consumer overload takes place, retailers get tired, and interest eventually plummets no matter how good the latest game in the series is. The biggest problem with games and toys and merchandising in general is pretty simple: there's just too much stuff available. We'll swing back to that in a minute, though...

If you listen very closely in the distance, you just might be able to hear the faint sound of sleigh bells headed in your direction. As the Holiday season moves toward it's thrilling conclusion with the arrival of Christmas on December 25th, millions of gift-givers are still seeking that perfect item for that special someone - and there's still plenty of time to get something cool, and at a cool price, too. My friends at GameStop are blazing toward Christmas with new markdowns and specials on some of the hottest games of the season, and they're also are great stop for some fun stocking stuffers - like Funko Pop! Vinyls, a few of which I picked up at our local GameStop just the other night. With last-minute convenience in mind, I'm giving you a few picks that are available now at GameStop - but that's not all! You could win a $50 GameStop Gift Card good for a little after-Christmas shopping! Ready to be a Holiday Hero?

When news of GUITAR HERO LIVE first hit my inbox some months back, I could hardly believe that by the time the game hit stores this Fall, it would've already been five years since I reviewed the last installment of the popular music gaming franchise back in 2010. A lot has changed in the half-decade since, but GUITAR HERO is back on the map in a big way, and one of my Top Video Game picks for my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. With players new and old strapping on the plastic guitars to rock out once more, GUITAR HERO LIVE puts YOU in the center of the action - focusing on the feel of playing live in front of a crowd of thousands. I've rocked the stage in real-life, and playing GUITAR HERO LIVE makes me itch to get back out there... but for now, Activision and I are going to give you a chance to win the game for your choice of platform (Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360) - a great way to rock out this Holiday Season! Wanna see the game in-action? Check out the video of Lenny Kravitz and James Franco below...

Just in-time for the official start of the Holiday rush ahead of Black Friday, the 2015 Nintendo Holiday Experience is coming to 16 Malls across the country, including one of our Chicagoland favorites - Simon's Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois. The Nintendo crew will be bringing photo ops, costumed characters (on select dates), and the opportunity for families to get a hands-on preview of some of this season's hottest games for the Wii U and 3DS. Catch the tour from November 23 - December 20, 2015.

The Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition is one of the best games of the year, and one that readers will find in my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide when it launches here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine next week. Today, the adventure gets bigger, as Disney Interactive and Lucasfilm have launched the latest Play Set, Star Wars Rise Against the Empire. Developed by Studio Gobo, in partnership with Avalanche Software, the Play Set takes players through the iconic moments and adventures from Episodes IV-VI, including the characters, vehicles and locations.

BLIND GUARDIAN Has Aligned with THE DWARVES...

German metal band BLIND GUARDIAN has forged an alliance with THE DWARVES. No, not the long running punk rock band - but a new RPG from KING Art Games, one that's currently on Kickstarter with $208K of $260K in the can with 15 days to go. Members of BLIND GUARDIAN are working on the original soundtrack for the game, and THE DWARVES will also include a quest that somehow directly involves BLIND GUARDIAN. Check out the announcement video below...
