Canadian Synth-rockers THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE are back for a fourth round with PINS & NEEDLES (out September 14th via Metropolis Records). Finding just the right balance between the heavy rock guitars and keyboard-driven grooves, if the band had emerged in the late 80's to mid-90's, they'd likely have been lumped somewhere into the vast "industrial" realm.
I was really excited a few weeks back when I caught wind of a new album from THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE via their social media streams. With October approaching fast, there is no more perfect band for the Fall season - a fact that I've noted in past coverage that I've written for other outlets. TBM is fantastic, and thus I'm really looking forward to the October 9th release of HIDE AND SEEK via Metropolis Records. Tour dates have been announced for Oct-Dec, and you can view those below.
As we count down the days until the official end of Summer (I'm moving into Fall already, but more on that later), my friend Beth Blenz-Clucas of Sugar Mountain PR put together a compilation of family-friendly songs that are perfect for A Late Summer Road Trip... or just rockin' out around the house. You can stream the 11-song set via the Soundcloud player below. Check it out!
This coming Tuesday, August 14 - the folks over at Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star are taking a bold move and bringing a little evil to their popular line of lullaby albums. LULLABY VERSIONS OF SLAYER will feature 12 thrash-tastic tunes from one of my favorite bands, SLAYER, reworked into TTLRS' "lush instrumental versions" geared toward relaxation or for playing in your babies' nursery. Having heard the album early, the possibilities for this are endless... haunted attractions... sinister elevator music... it's delightfully creepy, and pure awesome. My 7-week-old loves it. Check out the cover art below:
As the Mandan Bride corn that STORY LAURIE sent us continues growing in The Rock Father Garden, now comes an update from Laurie on the musical front: her first music video has been released. Below the break you can check out "Five Little Monkeys," a video which features the entire McIntosh family in a new take on the classic nursery rhyme. Dean Jones of DOG ON FLEAS makes a cameo appearance playing cuica and whistle.
