This should probably be in my "For Grownups" section here on The Rock Father, but since these are technically toys, I'm rolling with it right here. After announcing his autobiography for November, coinciding with the release of the second film about his life, Action 4 News Anchorman RON BURGUNDY has revealed that he will now be immortalized in action figure form, with a December release planned.

Toy Review: VTech 2-in-1 Shop & Cook Playset

Written by

When the folks at VTech sent us their new 2-in-1 Shop & Cook Playset for review in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house), I had some mixed feelings about it. We already have toy kitchens, and we already have toy shopping carts. But this one is different...  a transformer of sorts that combines two toys in one, while bringing into the mix the electronic learning element that VTech is famous for. After having ours for nearly a month, the time has come to share some thoughts with all of you.

Step2 Test Drive BloggerAs a Work-at-Home Dad (WAHD), I'm in a pretty cool position in that I have a dedicated "Command Center" here at the heart of Rock Father HQ - something I can thank my wife for, as it was her idea to place my home office on the ground floor. Periodically, four-year-old Addie has joined me at my desk - usually pulling up a chair to do some coloring or drawing, but she didn't have her own workspace... until now. As part of my gig as a 2013 Test Drive Blogger, the crew at Step2 sent us their new Creative Studio Art Desk, which is available now as a Sam's Club Exclusive

Step2 2013 Test Drive BloggerWith the Holiday season fast-approaching, it's time to start looking ahead to some of the cool toys that are starting to hit retail for Fall. Sure, some Scrooges may resist the "creep" of the season, but reality shows us that a lot of families are starting their Holiday shopping earlier, and that means that some are starting to consider things right now. Play kitchens have long-been one of the "bigger" items that kids tend to dig, and this year, my friends at Step2 are rolling out several new models, one of which arrived here for evaluation in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (in this case, our family room). The Step2 Lil' Chef's Gourmet Kitchen is being sold as a Toys "R" Us Exclusive this season, available in both gender-neutral and pink color schemes. My girls have had theirs for a month, so it's time to share some thoughts...

Back when I was a kid, STAR WARS was my main thing for a great many years. I was DARTH VADER for Halloween three years running ('82-'84 maybe?), and my collection of Kenner STAR WARS toys was impressive. While my original collection was sold somewhere around 1988 (which still sucks), I do have one of the vintage 3 3/4 inch Stormtroopers among a small collection that I've re-acquired and have displayed in my office. But for those that want something about 19.2 times larger, the crew at Gentle Giant have the answer... with a life-sized, 6' version of the original action figure. Weird? Yes. But we're talking about a life-size version of a toy that was a miniature version of something that was life-size. Check this out...

The recent partnership between Mattel and MEGA Bloks has given kids (and grownups) some new ways to play with characters and vehicles from iconic brands like HOT WHEELS and BARBIE. From the latter collection comes the MEGA Bloks Barbie Build 'N Play Super Star Stage, a new entry for Fall 2013 that features 290 pieces, and the addition of lights and sound. The MEGA Bloks crew sent one of these sets here for review in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (in this case, the dining room table) and my oldest daughter, Addie, couldn't have been more excited. It's Barbie. It's Building. It's a Stage for ROCK. Before it was even out-of-the-box, the right ingredients seemed to be present. But how is it for real?

Fall is here, and for most of America, that means it's Football Season. When I say "most of America," what I really mean is "Not here at Rock Father HQ." Truth is, I don't like Football... specifically, the game.

The world of SKYLANDERS is massive... especially for those that are actively immersed in the popular games from Activision and their associated collectible figurines that have crossed over into the toy aisle. From a financial standpoint, I'm lucky that SKYLANDERS hasn't caught on here at Rock Father HQ, despite my reviewing SPYRO'S ADVENTURE, the first game in the series back in 2011. Aside from that game and a couple of Happy Meal Toys that infiltrated our home at some point, we'd been largely SKYLANDERS-free until the folks at MEGA Bloks sent over their new ARKEYAN ROBOT KING Building Set for review in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house and yard). A little preview of things to come since SKYLANDERS: SWAP FORCE is being released this Fall?

PBS KIDS VIPI really can't say enough good things about DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD. A year after making it's debut on PBS KIDS, the series based on the legacy of MR. ROGERS NEIGHBORHOOD is becoming a phenomenon, and if you have a preschooler at home and aren't watching this... well, you should be. We just had a little sneak-preview of the upcoming Neighbor Day episode (airing September 2 - check out the full details) here at Rock Father HQ, and Daniel Tiger fans young and old are gonna dig it. With the new line of Daniel Tiger toys hitting Toys R Us stores right now, there's a digital element as well, and today comes the release of DANIEL TIGER'S DAY & NIGHT, a new App for iOS (coming soon to Android) that follows the successful PLAY AT HOME App.

First off: I was not aware that Disney Interactive and Capcom had released DUCKTALES: REMASTERED (a modern re-do of the old NES game), and I'm saddened that I'm just finding out about it now, but glad to have gained this knowledge. Second: Disney emailed me last night with a link to the OH MY DISNEY blog, on which they've revealed a collection of DuckTales-inspired posters from the folks at Mondo (who always make great stuff). The kicker? They'll be going on-sale sometime TODAY (August 28, 2013), so if you want one, you have to act fast. Mondo posters tend to sell-out ridiculously fast. Check out some of the posters and some DuckTales: Remastered Videos below...

Review: CHASIN' CHEEKY (Hasbro Games)

Written by

When I stopped into the Hasbro Party at Chicago's Hard Rock Cafe this past July, one of the special guests was a purple monkey named Cheeky. You see, he's one of the newest additions to the growing ELEFUN AND FRIENDS line, and the subject of two new games being released in-time for Fall: CHEEKY'S BARREL BURST (pre-order here) and CHASIN' CHEEKY (out now). As luck would have it, the folks at Hasbro Games had already sent the latter to Rock Father HQ for evaluation in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house).

What's the plural of "Mogwai?" Is it Mogwais... or is it like LEGO and just Mogwai? Regardless, the folks over at NECA have revealed a new batch of their popular, 7" Mogwai action figures based on GREMLINS. For this round, the NECA team dug deep into the archives for concept Mogwai(s) that were crafted by FX legend RICK BAKER (STAR WARS, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON) for the production of 1990's GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH. Get ready to meet Brownie, Doodah, and Penny...
