Little PimIf you're not familiar with Little Pim and are interested in working with your children to learn a foreign language, you definitely should be. I've mentioned the multi-platform language learning system here on The Rock Father before, and I've been dabbling with their French and Spanish sets here at Rock Father HQ. I say "dabble" because I've yet to be able to devote the time I really need to into it, but I'm getting there. I want my girls to learn early, and Little Pim has a fantastic program to do it, complete with music (DAN ZANES and MILKSHAKE appear on the Spanish disc we have), books, DVDs, flashcards, Apps and more, all geared toward kids from birth-six. But now they have an additional project in the mix that they could use a little help funding a Holiday e-Book for Kids called AROUND THE WORLD WITH LITTLE PIM. They're looking for $12K and are about halfway there on Kickstarter* with just 11 days to go. If you're inclined to help, you'll get some pretty cool products in return. Let's take a look.

It's Day 19 of 31 Days of Halloween already, and as we continue counting down the days 'till the best day of the year, I've still got a few tricks and treats up my sleeve. Once in awhile, though - something comes up that forces me to bump something else in order to get it worked in. A prime example: Crayola and their line Halloween Crayons. Like their recent assortment of Back-to-School colors (which I covered here), these snuck-up with no warning or announcement, appearing tucked into a corner at the local Walmart. This new collection of eight, seasonally-themed color collections and an accompanying coloring book (each priced at just .97) secured themselves a position on my annual countdown after becoming an immediate hit with the kids (and grownups!) here at Rock Father HQ.

While I've already featured some great family-friendly music during 31 Days of Halloween 2013 here on The Rock Father, today we're going to expand that playlist by nine... but only if you act fast! From now through Sunday (the 20th), you can grab a FREE DOWNLOAD of a Kindie Rocktober Halloween Playlist featuring tracks by TROUT FISHING IN AMERICA (again?), KEY WILDE & MR. CLARKE, DAVID TOBOCMAN, JUSTIN ROBERTS, HEIDI SWEDBERG and the SUKEY JUMP BAND, MISTER G, BOXTOP JENKINS (again?), LLOYD H. MILLER, and THE POP UPS. Stream the songs below, then grab the downloads from this page...

For Day 17 of 31 Days of Halloween we have something fresh... so fresh that just 24 hours ago it didn't exist online. From TROUT FISHING IN AMERICA comes the music video for "Boo!," a seasonally-appropriate, spooky little jam from their recently-released album, RUBBER BABY BUGGY BUMPERS. Check it out below...

For the second year in a row, the folks behind the annual Fids and Kamily Music Awards (inspired by the Village Voice's long-running "Pazz and Jop" Critics Poll) have been gracious (or foolish) enough to allow The Rock Father to join their ranks as one of 27 judges tasked with determining the best in Kids and Family Music for the year. It's the only award program that I support for Kids and Family Music, as I don't put any value in the programs that require artists to pay for a submission or "seal." For 2013, the voting was moved up to include family music releases that were released between November 1, 2012 and September 30, 2013. Most people (including a lot of people in the family music realm) don't realize just how much music is released during the course of a calendar year... and this year was MASSIVE. And much of it was really good, which made determining the winners a very difficult task. Each judge submitted a ranked list of their top 10 albums for the year, and today the results are in...
