For Day 12 of 31 Days of Halloween 2013 here on The Rock Father, I'm doing something different... I'm shining the spotlight on something that I created long before becoming a parent... years before becoming "The Rock Father": DEATH WALKS THE STREETS. A multi-genre horror/crime hybrid, DWTS was initially conceived as a screenplay in 2004 - the ultimate mashup between monsters and the mob. I'd completed the screenplay with my friend, Ben Brezinski, and then the project took on a nearly-legendary "life of it's own," in 2005 as we entered into a production deal for a movie... which was then touted as "A Trilogy." I ended up penning the sequel, DEATH WALKS THE STREETS II: THE LONG DECEMBER, and a line of prequel comic books was announced. Problem is, despite scoring a Spike Scream Award Nomination for "Most Anticipated Film," being featured in countless media outlets, getting well into pre-production to the point of soundtrack demos, set/prop/costume design, storyboarding, location scouting, FX tests completed, and a preliminary cast in-place with merchandise already being sold, the movies never happened. Hollywood horror story? Sort of, but some comic books were made...

SOFIA THE FIRST has been a staple here at Rock Father HQ since it started airing on Disney Junior earlier this year. That said, my girls will be pretty excited to learn that the adventure is going beyond Enchanica, and onto the seas when SOFIA THE FIRST: THE FLOATING PALACE arrives next month. Premiering SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 24 (7:00 p.m., ET/PT) on the Disney Channel and THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28 (7:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Junior, Sofia's first primetime special features an appearance from a true Disney legend - Princess Ariel, THE LITTLE MERMAID herself. Check out a preview below...

Halloween Specials have been a highlight of the Fall television season for as long as I can remember. I think this year has been light on that note, but the folks at DreamWorks Animation have two new titles out this Fall that feature some familiar characters with some new adventures. To celebrate the release of MONSTERS VS. ALIENS: CLONING AROUND and KUNG-FU PANDA: SCORPION STING, DreamWorks and The Rock Father are getting one lucky reader hooked up with DVDs of each, while sharing some thoughts on the Top DreamWorks characters for the season.

BOXTOP JENKINS' 2012 album YOU'RE HAPPIER WHEN YOU'RE HAPPY is a fun album, but one of many that I just haven't gotten to properly feature here on The Rock Father, despite it being released just over a year ago. But here we are in October, and with Halloween approaching once more, I'm circling back around to 'Ol Boxtop to feature a pair of tracks from that album - a duo that he himself has deemed "Spooky Sights and Nervous Nights." "Rattlin' Rattlin' Bones" features SHAWN MULLINS as the Spooky Skeleton, and "Gettin Down on Halloween" is a perfect little ditty that pays homage to some past frights (THE MUNSTERS for sure), and both land at Day 10 on 31 Days of Halloween this year. Stream them below, and as an added bonus - grab a FREE DOWNLOAD of Boxtop's Spooky Handsaw Halloween Howls!

It's an interesting coincidence that just last week I spent a few days at Smucker's company headquarters (more on that soon), and tonight I got an email from the JELLY OF THE MONTH CLUB. But the latter isn't delicious jelly at all - it's rock of the Kindie variety, a new group that features some familiar faces. Their debut album, INTRODUCING: JELLY OF THE MONTH CLUB was just released yesterday, and right now I'm sharing their new music video for "Brand New Friend."

Every time that CedarWorks hits me with some news, the same thing happens: I wish I had a bigger house. Their indoor play spaces are fantastic (so are their outdoor sets), and now they've expanded upon the Rhapsody line with the Rhapsody Solo, a pre-configured model (their products are normally highly customizable) perfect for playrooms. Check this out...
