Being musically-inclined, I have to say that I'm a sucker for toys that involve music. As I've noted in the past, my oldest daughter is already right there with me, always making "stages" and rocking out with her dolls and their accompanying instruments. Now, the folks at PLAYMOBIL are getting in on the action, launching a new line of PopStars! toys, which carry a "rock and roll theme." They're even trying to name their PopStars! bands, with a contest open right now. Since we don't have any of these here at Rock Father HQ, I can't comment on their quality, but I do have details on the full line to share below. There's even a tour bus...

New York singer/songwriter STORY LAURIE knows a thing or two about gardening (she once sent me some rare corn to plant from the Woodstock region), and with October here, it's time for Pumpkin Picking. Her new song, "Picking Pumpkins in the Pumpkin Patch" was co-written by 1st graders (Mrs. Bailey's 2012-2013 class, South Kortright School, NY) who took part in one of Laurie's "Cultivating Connections" songwriting workshops. It's a fun sing-along for the little ones, and it lands at Day 9 in my 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father this year. Listen or grab a FREE DOWNLOAD via the widget below...

Over the past couple of months, we've reviewed a lot of Mega Bloks here at Rock Father HQ. Seriously, there's even a dedicated tag for Mega Bloks right here on the site. While those sets have been aimed toward the whole family, I just got word today that the folks at MEGA Brands have launched a line of CALL OF DUTY Collector Construction Sets that are geared directly at me toward a slightly older audience. While the initial sets have already begun hitting retail, visitors to the New York Comic-Con this weekend (October 10-13) can stop by the Mega Bloks booth (Crystal Palace, Booth #102) to get a first-look at the buildable CALL OF DUTY Zombies (just in-time for Halloween!), and check out a life-sized CALL OF DUTY vehicle constructed from Mega Bloks.

When Fall arrives, one of the first things we always look forward to is new Halloween specials and video releases. While 2013 feels like a really light year on that note, one new collection that's a must-have for little ones is THE HALLOWEEN COLLECTION: Volume 2, from the excellent, and ever-expanding Scholastic Storybook Treasures line from Weston Woods/Cinedigm/New Kideo. This 3-Disc DVD Box set features 14 classic tales ripe for the halloween season, and manages to encourage learning along with bringing the not-so-scary frights.

Watch: The First STAR WARS REBELS Teaser Arrives...

Written by

Next year, Disney XD will begin airing their new original animated series, STAR WARS REBELS. Announced this past May (and covered on The Rock Father, here), the series takes place in the roughly 20-year gap between STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH and STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE... in other words, an era where an Old Trilogy guy like myself could see some familiar characters out and about. The first teaser is online, and it's just that - a teaser. Watch all 15-seconds of it below...

PBS KIDS VIPToday is the day... after months of waiting, PEG + CAT will make it's debut on PBS KIDS (check your local listings for times)! The latest offering from The Fred Rogers Company seeks to bring young viewers a new way to experience math through Peg and Cat’s relatable, and often hilarious, adventures. Each PEG + CAT episode features original songs and fascinating stories in which Peg and Cat encounter a problem that requires them to use math and problem-solving skills in order to move forward. To bring the experience beyond the television, PBS KIDS has launched several interactive PEG + CAT features, including the rockin' PEG + CAT BIG GIG APP, 11 online games, and numerous offline activities. I've got details on all of them, right here on The Rock Father!
