BOXTOP JENKINS' 2012 album YOU'RE HAPPIER WHEN YOU'RE HAPPY is a fun album, but one of many that I just haven't gotten to properly feature here on The Rock Father, despite it being released just over a year ago. But here we are in October, and with Halloween approaching once more, I'm circling back around to 'Ol Boxtop to feature a pair of tracks from that album - a duo that he himself has deemed "Spooky Sights and Nervous Nights." "Rattlin' Rattlin' Bones" features SHAWN MULLINS as the Spooky Skeleton, and "Gettin Down on Halloween" is a perfect little ditty that pays homage to some past frights (THE MUNSTERS for sure), and both land at Day 10 on 31 Days of Halloween this year. Stream them below, and as an added bonus - grab a FREE DOWNLOAD of Boxtop's Spooky Handsaw Halloween Howls!

It's an interesting coincidence that just last week I spent a few days at Smucker's company headquarters (more on that soon), and tonight I got an email from the JELLY OF THE MONTH CLUB. But the latter isn't delicious jelly at all - it's rock of the Kindie variety, a new group that features some familiar faces. Their debut album, INTRODUCING: JELLY OF THE MONTH CLUB was just released yesterday, and right now I'm sharing their new music video for "Brand New Friend."

Every time that CedarWorks hits me with some news, the same thing happens: I wish I had a bigger house. Their indoor play spaces are fantastic (so are their outdoor sets), and now they've expanded upon the Rhapsody line with the Rhapsody Solo, a pre-configured model (their products are normally highly customizable) perfect for playrooms. Check this out...

Being musically-inclined, I have to say that I'm a sucker for toys that involve music. As I've noted in the past, my oldest daughter is already right there with me, always making "stages" and rocking out with her dolls and their accompanying instruments. Now, the folks at PLAYMOBIL are getting in on the action, launching a new line of PopStars! toys, which carry a "rock and roll theme." They're even trying to name their PopStars! bands, with a contest open right now. Since we don't have any of these here at Rock Father HQ, I can't comment on their quality, but I do have details on the full line to share below. There's even a tour bus...

New York singer/songwriter STORY LAURIE knows a thing or two about gardening (she once sent me some rare corn to plant from the Woodstock region), and with October here, it's time for Pumpkin Picking. Her new song, "Picking Pumpkins in the Pumpkin Patch" was co-written by 1st graders (Mrs. Bailey's 2012-2013 class, South Kortright School, NY) who took part in one of Laurie's "Cultivating Connections" songwriting workshops. It's a fun sing-along for the little ones, and it lands at Day 9 in my 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father this year. Listen or grab a FREE DOWNLOAD via the widget below...

Over the past couple of months, we've reviewed a lot of Mega Bloks here at Rock Father HQ. Seriously, there's even a dedicated tag for Mega Bloks right here on the site. While those sets have been aimed toward the whole family, I just got word today that the folks at MEGA Brands have launched a line of CALL OF DUTY Collector Construction Sets that are geared directly at me toward a slightly older audience. While the initial sets have already begun hitting retail, visitors to the New York Comic-Con this weekend (October 10-13) can stop by the Mega Bloks booth (Crystal Palace, Booth #102) to get a first-look at the buildable CALL OF DUTY Zombies (just in-time for Halloween!), and check out a life-sized CALL OF DUTY vehicle constructed from Mega Bloks.
