TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS

Part of #TMNTweek 2016 on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine! Check out TheRockFather.com/TMNT for more.

The year was 1989, and as the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES celebrated their meteoric rise to the top of the Saturday morning cartoon charts and simultaneous infiltration of the action figure aisle, the battle against The Shredder and The Foot Clan wound up finding a new stage: the breakfast table. Produced by Ralston, who at the time were the kings of cool-looking, yet questionably-tasting cereals based on the pop culture icons of the day, the original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Cereal  featured "Crunchy Ninja Nets" (think Chex) and Ninja Marshmallows for "a power-packed crunch!" Like most licensed cereals, it was a limited-time affair, but with the success of Nickelodeon's current animated series and the release of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS into theaters, Mikey, Leo, Raph and Donnie are back in the kitchen in a new cereal, produced in 2016 by General Mills.

There's a trend happening right now that I'm seriously digging... one that takes me back to my own youth growing up in the 80s: Space. The Rock Daughters™ are pretty space-obsessed at this point, having countless out-of-this-world adventures that often take them to a galaxy far, far away... or beyond the known universe. For the latter, it's Nickelodeon's TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES answering the call, and BEYOND THE KNOWN UNIVERSE is the latest DVD collection to feature the boys in-action. As part of #TMNTweek 2016, my friends at Nickelodeon and Paramount have teamed-up with THE ROCK FATHER Magazine to give readers a shot at winning one!

"FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SEWER... the the top of the toy charts," that was how Playmates Toys' described the success of their 1988 launch of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Action Figures, Vehicles and Role-play. It was 28 years ago that the long-running, yet little-known toymaker burst into the action figure aisle with a small assortment of figures based upon the "classic" TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES animated series, which made its debut as a five-part miniseries in late 1987 prior to going full-steam-ahead as a Saturday morning cartoon in the Fall of 1988. In fact, like many toys of the era, the TV series and toys went hand-in-hand, with the series designed to sell toys, despite the fact that TMNT was based on the much darker 1984 comic book series. As the 30th Anniversary of the TMNT toys approaches on the horizon, the 'Turtles have gone through numerous incarnations across every medium, but at its core the basic action figures remain the heart of the brand when it comes to play. When the TMNT brand relaunched in 2012 with the Nickelodeon series, the 'Turtles were quickly back on top and a live-action movie soon followed, making its theatrical debut in the summer of 2014. Now, with the release of the second live-action movie in the new series hitting screens, it's time to take a look at the Basic Action Figure assortment from TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS!

When the first Michael Bay-produced TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES movie hit screens back in 2014, we celebrated the release here at THE ROCK FATHER Magazine with a special #TMNTWeek. With so many people having enjoyed that week, I knew that when TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS was released, we had to do it all over again... but like any great sequel, it would have to be bigger, bolder, and at least as fun as the first time around (hopefully more). With the release of the new film this Friday, #TMNTWeek returns to the site and we're kicking things off right! My friends at Paramount Pictures have provided me with three (3) 27x40 Theatrical One-Sheet Posters for the film, and we're giving readers a shot at winning them all week! Enter below, and get ready to kick some shell!

On June 3, Paramount Pictures will release TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS, and today comes a new clip that you'd think shows the new Shellraiser Tactical Truck in all of its Foot Clan-fighting glory... but it's actually Raphael that "takes out the trash." Aside from the new clip (and those new looks are increasing in frequency), PORTLANDIA's Fred Armisen had to bow out of voicing the evil Krang due to a scheduling conflict, opening the door for Brad Garrett to step into the voice booth. Check out the new clip below, and be sure to hit my special TMNT content hub right here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine for all-things Turtles. #TMNTWeek returns to the site May 30-June 3, so stay tuned...

On June 3, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon will serve-up another dose of big-screen action from the world's favorite anthropomorphic two-legged turtles. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS finds Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael returning to theaters to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a fan-requested newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). This week, a new trailer and poster have arrived, alongside the full announcement on the new line of toys from longtime TMNT master licensee, Playmates Toys - most of which are in-stores now! Ready to Rock?
