The world of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES keeps getting bigger, and the folks at Playmates Toys keep expanding upon the types of play that's available to the growing legion of TMNT fans out there. While the core action figures are the cornerstone, T-Machines (reviewed here), Mutations and Half-Shell Heroes are also increasingly popular. Now comes T-Sprints, "Mighty Motorized Micros" that are launching first at Toys "R" Us this month, and racing into other retailers beginning in January of 2016. What are they? Quite simply, they're old-school rev-up toys, but with a "unique flywheel so kids can rev and send them sprinting into action." Check out two promotional spots and full details below...
When it comes to diecast rides, there's a lot that we love, and our fleet increases regularly here at Rock Father HQ. Among the latest to start rockin' the road with The Rock Daughters are the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES T-Machines - reviewed here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine earlier this Fall. Created by Playmates Toys and available in the diecast aisles of your favorite toy emporiums right now, these vehicles take inspiration from Nickelodeon's hit TMNT animated series, placing each character (heroes and villains alike) in vehicles that would be totally appropriate for "raising shell" on the streets of NYC. An official entry into The Rock Father's 2015 Holiday Wish Guide, the T-Machines are also the very first Holiday Wish Guide Giveaway for the season, with one lucky reader taking home a seriously Turtle-riffic prize pack that includes two (2) basic vehicles, two (2) vehicles with sound, and one (1) basic playset - all chosen at random from the available assortment!
Having seen all the various incarnations of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES over the years, it's been fascinating to see the waves of popularity levels rise and fall over time. I was front-and-center the first time the TMNT crew jumped from animated to live-action, and I tend to think that they're actually more popular now. TMNT has been firmly-established as a multi-generational interest at this point, one enjoyed by parents and kids, girls and boys alike. When a character becomes so loved that they wind up being sold on little girls' underwear (and yes, The Rock Daughters' do have Ninja Turtles undies), that's a big deal. From the beginning, Playmates Toys has held the master license, and I think that their toys just keep getting better. This year, they've launched a new sub-line that places the Turtles and their enemies in a new aisle at the toy store - the diecast section. Enter the T-MACHINES.
Every time I write a news item like this, I always feel just a tiny bit bummed that I usually don't have the time to consume and enjoy all of the pop culture I find myself writing about - there's just too much of it! A prime example I hope to read comes this November when IDW Publishing and DC Comics unleash their latest crossover - BATMAN and the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. Now, the idea of the the two existing in the same universe isn't entirely far-fetched, but any potential continuity problems are taken care of by the plot itself, a synopsis for which has just-arrived...
Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Entertainment are blasting out of the sewers and onto the streets this month with their latest DVD release from the TMNT crew - TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: RETURN TO NYC! While the beginning of the show's third season found the Turtles mastering their skills in a more secluded, wooded locale, this new DVD finds Leo, Mikey, Raph and Don headed back to the big city to defend it from some new threats. Now, THE ROCK FATHER Magazine is gonna get one of you hooked up with a copy!
In many ways, the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES are like BATMAN. There's so many ways you can tell their stories - from the dark, hardcore origins of the mid-1980s, to the comedic stylings of the late 80s/early 90s, and the numerous variations on each that the 21st Century has brought us. While audiences in 2015 are enjoying the latest animated series on Nickelodeon, and looking forward to another live-action adventure on the big-screen next year, it was just 12 years ago that another animated run was taking place, and this week Paramount Pictures has released two new volumes of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (2003). THE SEARCH FOR SPLINTER and NYC SHOWDOWN! are both available now, and I've got your chance to win a pair, right here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine!
