It's no secret that I do love VOLTRON, and knowing that the folks behind DreamWorks Animation's VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER feel the same way, my appreciation of the work just grows stronger. Today comes the official word straight outta New York Comic-Con (NYCC) that Season Two will premiere on Netflix on January 20, 2017. Some new pics of the series have been issued, the new action figures and vehicles from Playmates should probably debut at New York Toy Fair in February, and there's also a Season Two teaser that was released via IGN - a clip that will be familiar to those who attended SDCC this past summer. Take a look...

Netflix Stream TeamI've been singing the praises of the Netflix Original Series, VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER ever since I went behind the scenes at DreamWorks Animation back in early May.  While it was pretty obvious from the get-go (Playmates Toys' new action figures won't be out until 2017), it's now 100% official that the second season of VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER will be hitting Netflix later this fall. At San Diego Comic-Con International this afternoon, executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery and writer Tim Hedrick made it official, while joined by surprise guest Steven Yeun (THE WALKING DEAD), who voices Keith the pilot of the red lion.

Netflix #StreamTeamAs we get ready to close the books on June and move into the second half of the year on an official basis, my friends at Netflix are looking toward the future, while also keeping a keen eye on where things are in the present. Earlier this month, a question was posited: Where is the craziest place that you've gone to sneak-in a Netflix fix? They even whipped-up a little chart with some common locations for sneaky streamers, and I'll fully admit to matching #1... perhaps while in the process of #2. Yes, I've maybe watched a show on the throne, but I don't make a habit of it - most of my viewing is actually right here in my office at Rock Father HQ, but it you have an interesting locale for streaming, I'd like to hear about it! So what's new from Netflix? A lot of stuff, but I'm focusing on a few pics from our family to yours, as well as one piece of news that I'm really digging...

Netflix #StreamTeamWhen it comes to television in 2016, retro vibes and nostalgia are powerful thing - a trend that's been gathering steam in recent years, often resulting in that perfect emotional mix that can find an updated property becoming cross-generational. As a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, I've written about the subject at length, with the crew at Netflix leading the charge toward co-viewing and bringing families back together to enjoy the shared experience of something new... but rooted in something old. For the second time this year, I found myself face-to-face with familiar characters from my own youth, first with FULLER HOUSE, and now with something a little closer to my heart... VOLTRON. I'd been invited to DreamWorks Animation in Glendale, California for an early look at VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER, and a meeting with the talent and creatives behind the show. It was also a chance to get involved... if only for a moment.

Netflix Stream TeamLast week, I found myself in Glendale, California, reporting for duty at DreamWorks Animation on assignment for the Netflix #StreamTeam, all for a gig very near and dear to my heart... that of a kid that grew up in the 80s. Technically, I'm not allowed to tell you the specifics of what I was doing, but I don't think I'll get in too much trouble if I admit that yes, I have seen VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER... I just can't tell you anything about the Netflix Original Series other than that it's streaming on June 10, and today the first official trailer has been released. Whether you loved VOLTRON back in '84, or you're just getting involved, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the video below...

I'd like to think that I know a thing or two about VOLTRON, and as someone that holds the 1984 version of the property in high regard and has seen numerous reboots try (and fail) to make a splash, I feel confident that we're on the cusp of a new golden era for the familiar Lion Force. With the Netflix Original Series, DreamWorks' VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER streaming starting June 10, fans looking for new adventures will have a whole new chapter waiting for them in print: comic books from Lion Forge Comics - the folks who brought KNIGHT RIDER and MADBALLS into print. Releasing in July, the comic series expands the adventures of the paladins of Voltron with the first of a five-part series of VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER comics. The mini-series is the first of several planned expansions of new storylines between seasons.
