I've been meaning to post this for about a week now, but it just kept getting pushed back until today. BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist ZAKK WYLDE is indeed a Rock Father himself - just check out this home video of him singing I Thank You Child with his daughter. While that's certainly some compelling evidence, this recent trailer for his forthcoming book BRINGING METAL TO THE CHILDREN: The Complete Berzerker's Guide to World Tour Domination (out April 10 via HarperCollins) is just pure entertainment. I wish that my daughter's reading groups at the local library looked more like this. Take a look.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star just hit The Rock Father™ with news that their 64th collection of ''lullabies for all ages'' is now available, with LULLABY VERSIONS OF DAVID BOWIE arriving on iTunes and other digital retailers this week. I've posted an unusually large number of stories focused on the music of THE SMITHS this month, that it almost seems like overkill. No, not the thrash metal band ''Overkill,'' but a little too much. But, this news is just too good not to share. First off, those interested in introducing THE SMITHS to their infants might be interested to know that the Rockabye Baby! LULLABY RENDITIONS OF THE SMITHS (full details here) will be getting a limited-edition vinyl release for Record Store Day 2012.
That's right, true believers - RIZE OF THE FENIX (pre-order it now on iTunes!), already hailed as ''The Greatest Album Ever Recorded by Anyone Ever'' by EXTRA's Maria Menounos, is coming to fine record emporiums nationwide on May 15th. The long-awaited comeback album by Kyle Gass and Jack Black, collectively known as the mighty TENACIOUS D, will demand to be a member of your audio listening collection. The Rock Father has the first music video for To Be The Best (featuring BATMAN FOREVER star Val Kilmer, along with old folks favorite Josh Groban and FOO FIGHTERS overlord Dave Grohl) along with a stream of the title track - Rize of the Fenix - below.
Well, this certainly came out of the blue this morning... and The Rock Father™ approves.
I'm still a little weirded out when I see MARVEL merchandise inside THE DISNEY STORE (even though I love both brands), but it's even weirder when someone from Disney sends you a preview of brand-NEW music from SOUNDGARDEN via AVENGERS ASSEMBLE: Music From and Inspired by the Motion Picture. Would you like to hear a 22-second snippet of the first new SOUNDGARDEN single in 15 years? S.H.I.E.L.D. commands you to read on... and Live to Rise.
It's the middle of the week and the music news is flowing. While The Rock Father™ is all about entertainment for the kids, there's plenty of Music for Grownups, and that brings us to another edition of The Random Rock N' More. I've got rapid fire updates on over 40 bands and artists starting with ''rock'' (from mainstream to indie, pop rock to black metal), and finishing with ''N' More,'' brief items from elsewhere in the musical spectrum. A well-rounded musical pallette is good for the ears. Here we go!
