On October 22, Warner Bros Records will revisit VAN MORRISON's classic album, MOONDANCE, with the release of three new physical configurations and an iTunes Deluxe Edition. The pinnacle of the reissue is the newly remastered and expanded version featuring 50 unreleased tracks including studio outtakes of favorites like “Caravan, “Moondance” and “Into The Mystic,” plus multiple takes and a final mix of the unheard track “I Shall Sing”. To celebrate the release, Warner Bros/Rhino have teamed up with The Rock Father to get one lucky reader hooked-up with VAN MORRISON: MOONDANCE, the 5-Disc Deluxe Edition!
As "The Rock Father," one of my greatest joys is introducing my daughters to new sonic landscapes through some "Musical History Lessons" taught here at Rock Father HQ. No history of rock would be complete without sharing with them the music of THE DOORS, and one recent tool to hit the market is THE DOORS App for iPad by Warner Music Group's Rhino Entertainment (if only we had an iPad). This extensively in-depth look at the band and their legacy is available now in the App store for just $4.99, and to celebrate it's release, Rhino and The Rock Father are getting two lucky readers hooked-up with a three-pack of CDs from THE DOORS! Live at the Matrix 1967, Live in Pittsburgh 1970 & the When You’re Strange Soundtrack are all included.
Back in 1988, R.E.M. released their major label debut for Warner Bros. when GREEN hit record store shelves. The album would launch some iconic singles including "Stand," "Orange Crush," and "Pop Song 89." A true classic, Rhino Records recently celebrated the 25th Anniversary of GREEN with an extensive reissue (which I posted about previously). With Father's Day coming up this Sunday, the folks at Rhino along with 1888 Media and The Rock Father are giving readers a chance to score The Ultimate R.E.M. GREEN Prize Package. It would make a great Father's Day Gift for a special, R.E.M.-loving Dad in your life.
25 years ago, R.E.M. released GREEN, the album that launched singles like "Stand," "Pop Song 89," and "Orange Crush" - songs that would establish the band to a worldwide audience as part of their major label debut release for Warner Bros. Records. To celebrate a quarter century of GREEN, Rhino is releasing a two-disc deluxe edition that features the remastered original album accompanied by a disc of live performances taken from "the penultimate show of R.E.M.’s 130-date Green World Tour." All 21 songs were recorded in Greensboro, North Carolina on November 10, 1989, just miles from where Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry had their very first recording session at Mitch Easter’s Drive In Studio in Winston-Salem. Check out the tracklisting and cover art below...
This week, LED ZEPPELIN: SOUND AND FURY, a digital book by noted photographer Neal Preston, arrived exclusively on the iBookstore for the iPad. To celebrate it's release, the folks at Rhino Entertainment have teamed with The Rock Father to provide readers with a chance to win a limited-edition 8x10 print, signed by photographer/author Neal Preston himself. Details on this incredible new digital book can be found below, along with your chance to enter this special giveaway!
It's only Tuesday, yet still a fair amount of music news has been hitting my inbox here at Rock Father HQ. While I can't say anything has been completely mind-blowing, there's enough here for an early-edition of The Random Rock N' More, the column where I fire off quick one-line updates on a bunch of artists. If you want to dig deeper, a link is provided. As always, this hits on all areas of 'rock' from indie and folk to black metal and grindcore - "Music for Grown-ups" that wouldn't be featured on the homepage of The Rock Father™ site. Everything is fair game. Here's your Random Rock for Tuesday, April 10, 2012.
