As we approach the halfway mark of the year, 2015 is looking like a fantastic year for media, with the best titles yet to come. When it comes to games, one of the biggest on my most-anticipated list is the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition... aka the STAR WARS edition. Today comes a fresh look at one of the three STAR WARS Play Sets to be released for the game this year, STAR WARS: TWILIGHT OF THE REPUBLIC. Developed by Ninja Theory, in partnership with Avalanche Software, the game is set to deliver "an authentic family-friendly STAR WARS game experience with an enhanced combat system."
File this one under "Worst-kept Secrets," as official word has arrived that DISNEY INFINITY 3.0 will, indeed, be the STAR WARS edition. After months of speculation and leaked images (which I didn't run here on the site), the announcement arrived this afternoon, complete with the reveal trailer and pre-orders going live at GameStop, Best Buy and Amazon. While the addition of STAR WARS content is the biggest deal here, playable characters and figures from TRON will be available at launch, and new playsets will also feature a ton of characters and content from Disney, MARVEL and Disney•Pixar, including the upcoming film, INSIDE OUT. Check out the trailer...

The MARVEL Cinematic Universe is ever-expanding, and if one thing made solid the fact that audiences are constantly craving more, it's the intergalactic success brought forth by Peter "Star-Lord" Quill, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax, collectively known as the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. This little-known comic blasted onto screens in August, and since then has pulled in a hefty $771,815,000 globally as of this writing. With the Holiday Season upon us, kids and grownups alike are ready re-live the adventures of the Milano crew again and again, and this week that becomes possible with the release of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (GOTG) on Blu-ray and DVD, available at Walmart. But the adventure doesn't stop with the movie, it begins there! As my kids know, any day is perfect to pop on the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (ZinePak Edition) and have an adventure with our Guardians figures and vehicles.
With just a few weeks left until Christmas, the window of time to search for that perfect gift is getting smaller and smaller. For those that have a gamer to buy for, there's some great options that I've featured here on the site over the past year - big hits like Disney Infinity 2.0 and CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE. But those are just the tip of the iceberg, and when it comes to gaming, your local GameStop store has a ton of great deals and new releases for every member of the family, from "big" gifts like a new XBOX One or Playstation 4, to stocking stuffers like the latest figures from Skylanders Trap Team. Now, GameStop and THE ROCK FATHER have teamed-up to highlight some great picks from the GameStop Holiday Hub in this Gaming Special Edition entry into my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide!
Today marks a glorious occasion for players of Disney Infinity 2.0 as Mickey Mouse comes to the game in a new form based on his appearance in FANTASIA's Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence. The Crystal Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey is available now as what you could call an "upgraded" version of his Infinity 1.0 persona. Take a peek at the figure and screenshots below...

Superheroes are part of daily life here at Rock Father HQ. Most of you know that by now, but I live it daily, when my girls break out their Spider-man (which you will be corrected to acknowledge as "Spider-GIRL") or Rocket Racoon masks for an adventure in the yard, or when Iron Man and Captain America spend some time having tea with Rapunzel and Ariel in the Disney Princess Castle. Not long ago, I saw the Iron Patriot chilling out with Boba Fett on the sun deck of the Barbie Dream House, kicking back, completely lounging in a pair of purple adirondack chairs. What can I say? It happens, so when Elsa and Anna show up, the adventure is just beginning. I'm big on imaginative play, tending to go light on the "screens" and big on the physical realm, which is why I've always been intrigued by the Disney Infinity Games - an open-ended platform that manages to merge to physical and the virtual. It's actually the first video game that I've ever let my girls play.
