Angry Birds Star Wars II TelepodsRecommended for Ages 5+, Angry Birds Star Wars II Telepods from Hasbro are hot right now. Bringing the world of Angry Birds Star Wars into the physical realm, these toys can then use the Telepod technology to teleport your real-world characters into the App and then decide who to launch. You'll need an iOS or Android Device to use these, so please keep that in mind as you prepare for Holiday gifting. In addition to securing a spot in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide here on The Rock Father, my friends at Hasbro and I have teamed-up to get one lucky reader hooked up with an Angry Birds Star Wars II Telepods Prize Pack! One reader will receive a box of goodies that includes the DEATH STAR TRENCH RUN Set, and a figure pack with Princess Leia and R2-D2!

beatles125Just in-time for the Holiday Season, THE BEATLES will release ON AIR: LIVE AT THE BBC, Vol. 2 (out 11/11). This 63-track collection (which I previously covered here) is the official follow-up to the 1994 album, LIVE AT THE BBC, which sold five million copies in under six weeks. While this new collection has secured a spot right here in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide, the folks at Universal Music are letting me get one lucky reader hooked-up with the 2-CD set. It would make a great gift for THE BEATLES fan on your list.

BattroborgRecommended for Ages 6+. "Battling" is a BIG thing for the 2013 Holiday Season, and at the head of the pack is BATTROBORG Battling Robots from TOMY. When I first came face-to-face with these pint-sized robotic combatants, I was with a group of fellow Dad Bloggers who had come together on the streets of Chicago in order to "Settle the Score." What score were we settling? I'm still not quite sure, but I didn't get a real good grasp of the game while surrounded by 20 or so other grown men that were huddled around like some sort of "Fight Club" while awaiting their chance at glory.

Mickeys Christmas Carol I distinctly remember the first time I watched MICKEY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL. It was 1983, and THE RESCUERS (which I was too young to see the first time around) was reissued to theaters. Ahead of the film was an "all-new featurette" called MICKEY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL. It was a big deal, and everyone wanted to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, Goofy, and a host of familiar characters in the Walt Disney version of the Charles Dickens classic.

Holiday Gift Guide: The TETRIS LIGHT by Paladone

Written by

Tetris LightRecommended for Ages 8+, I'm filing The TETRIS LIGHT under my "For Grownups" section of the 2013 Holiday Gift Guide here on The Rock Father. This captivating discussion piece looks great here in my office, bringing Alexey Pajitnov's famously-addictive puzzle game into the real world. It's electrically-operated, so it's not for the little ones, but that probably won't stop them from wanting to give it a go. Just keep it out-of-reach, and enjoy the colorful glow of the Tetriminos by night!

Holiday Gift Guide: NERF N-Strike Blazin Bow Blaster

Written by

nerfbow125Recommended for Ages 6+, the NERF N-Strike Blazin' Bow Blaster will appeal to boys and girls of all ages (yes, grownups, too) for safe archery-style fun inside and out. I first got to play with this at the #HasbroHotToys lunch in Chicago, and we've since been rockin' one here at Rock Father HQ. While Mommy isn't a fan of seeing it used indoors, the NERF N-Strike Blazin' Bow Blaster really hit's the target - especially with kids already enthralled with characters like Merida from BRAVE, or THE HUNGER GAMES series.

pajanimals125Jim Henson's PAJANIMALS have been a beloved part of our bedtime routine here at Rock Father HQ ever since we first started seeing them on Sprout. Now, with Saturday morning appearances on NBC Kids, the Pajanimals crew are becoming increasingly familiar to a growing audience of kids and their grownups. One of the new items from TOMY's Pajanimals line is the APOLLO GOODNIGHT PROJECTOR, a perfect gift idea for ages Birth+, and an entry into my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide here on The Rock Father.

There are few bands that have reached the iconic stature of METALLICA. For over thirty years, the band has been providing the soundtrack for listeners like myself, and today comes the release of the first part of the definitive, two-volume biography of METALLICA. BIRTH SCHOOL METALLICA DEATH: The Biography, Volume 1 (Da Capo Press Music Books) has secured a spot in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide (For Grownups) here on THE ROCK FATHER, as it would make a fantastic offering for the metal fan on your holiday shopping list. Even better, my friends at Da Capo Press and I have teamed-up to get two lucky readers hooked-up with the brand new hardcover! My copy just arrived here at Rock Father HQ today, and I can't wait to get reading...

FOGHATFOGHAT has been rockin' for over 40 years, and while they've gotten into the Holiday Spirit a few times before, they're back with their second-ever instrumental... a new, 2013 recording of "Winter Wonderland." Available today on iTunes, this early entry into your 2013 Holiday Playlist can be streamed below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

I'm a big fan of FEARLESS RECORDS' "PUNK GOES" series, something I've noted over the years, and having written a retrospective about the series' first decade back in 2010. I'd later tackle PUNK GOES CLASSIC ROCK and another of the PUNK GOES POP releases formally, and while I didn't review them, I'd still follow along for the more recent releases. Now, after being rumored for quite some time (especially when 'TIS THE SEASON TO BE FEARLESS hit the streets), PUNK GOES CHRISTMAS is official, and will hit stores on November 5, and you can count me interested. While it was technically announced last month, I've just really been trying to get closer to November to start Holiday coverage, and while this is technically "for grownups," I filed it under "kids and family" because, hey - it's X-mas! Check out the tracklisting below...

As Father's Day gets closer, many of my readers are still hunting for a perfect gift for that special Dad in their lives. As I always say - I don't ask for, nor do I require a gift, but if you must get one - don't overspend. Movies always make great gifts, and one that's been on my radar lately is THE LAST RIDE. Touted as "A Story of Hank Williams," THE LAST RIDE is a telling of the final days of Williams' life - not a true biopic, so the accuracy has come into question. But, with Henry Thomas (Elliott from E.T.) as Hank Williams, my interest is piqued. With the Blu-ray out now, the folks over at FoxConnect sent over the Top Five Most-Covered HANK WILLIAMS Songs. Curious what they are?

Father's Day is June 16, and in the interest of helping all of you find a special gift for the METAL-loving Dad in your life, The Rock Father and Adrenaline PR are giving readers a chance to score a METAL DAD PRIZE PACK featuring three new books that are perfect gifts and great summer reading. One lucky reader will receive LOUDER THAN HELL: The Definitive Oral History of Metal, THE MERCILESS BOOK OF METAL LISTS, and Till Death: A Guide to Love and Loss . Details on all three books along with your chance to enter can be found below...
