Not long ago, my friends at Folgers Coffee (I'm one of their Brand Ambassadors) asked me what I thought of when I thought of the morning here at Rock Father HQ. In an instant, my entire routine flashed through my brain like that moment in the Guy Ritchie film SNATCH - the one where "Cousin Avi" says he's "going to London."
There is definitely a distinct routine that takes place every morning here at Rock Father HQ, and what went through my head looked a little something like this...
Living in Northern Illinois, the weather is often unpredictable, with winter weather a particularly daunting challenge. The seasons have shifted by weeks, and the thermostat swings to and fro with an often schizophrenic level of irregularity. One day the wind chill is -27°, while the next swings upward to nearly 40°. From unbearable risk of frostbite to melting snow and back down below freezing once more, the winter months wreak havoc upon your body, and while I've not spent the winters at sea, I can imagine what it might be like (especially after visiting the shores of Lake Michigan in December), and I do enjoy unleashing the power of Fisherman's Friend lozenges to fight the inevitable sore throats and coughs that come with the winter months.
It's #NationalCheeseLoversDay, and had I known that in advance, I would've planned more accordingly. My friend Charles (you know him as "Chuck") runs a national chain of pizza and fun emporiums, and to celebrate the day, he's got his staff out on the streets of New York City to let passers-by do a blind taste test of some new pizzas on the menu of an un-branded food truck. Check out the reaction of these non-actors when they find out that they're sampling new offerings from Chuck E. Cheeses!
With the Holiday Season behind us, here I sit just days into the new year thinking back that the past few weeks have been, well, exhausting. Months of planning for events both personal and professional, and once December actually hits, it's like a complete blur until January. Now that the dust has settled a bit, I have to think about what settled my stomach: Pepto-Bismol. Sure, if Ralphie was here reading this website with his little decoder ring, he'd probably think of this post as "a crummy commercial" - but I'm completely serious when I say that the one time of the year that is completely ripe with overindulgence for me is Christmas. For some folks it's Thanksgiving (largely regarded as the biggest "eating" holiday of them all), but for me it's always from around December 20-31st each year. I should (and do) know better, but with munchies just sitting in the open around every corner, Holiday "grazing" leads to some big time stomach aches and indigestion. That's where #PinkRelief comes in.
One of the items that's popping up on year-end "Best-of" lists and "Gift Guides" around the web is the Candy Craft Chocolate Pen by Skyrocket Toys. Wouldn't you know... it's on my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here at THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, too! Perfect for "Little Foodies," we've had a Chocolate Pen here at Rock Father HQ for a few months now, and it's a fun novelty - not perfect - but something that kids love.
In a time when a lot of what we hear can be less than kind, it's time to spread some kindness and start recognizing the KIND acts that take place millions of times a day. With the Holiday Season upon us, there's more folks out and about, and that makes it easier to spot some acts of kindness out there "in the wild." It can be a simple gesture like holding a door or helping someone when they fall... or a bigger act like volunteering at a local shelter, or doing something bigger like a toy drive (as we did here at Rock Father HQ). There's a lot of people out there that are #kindawesome, and my friends at KIND Snacks want to help spread kindness by recognizing kind acts. Being KIND has been part of their mission since day one, and on World Kindness Day this year, they unveiled some shareable #kindawesome cards to recognize and share. I have some of those cards... but you can share kindness, too!

'Tis the season to be scary, and this is the weekend when most neighborhoods will be overrun with all manner of ghosts, ghouls, goblins, witches, warlocks and just about every pop culture character you can imagine - all having come to life and ready to walk the streets! They're looking for treats, of course, creeping up to each house with a simple threat question: Trick or Treat? Are they asking you for one or the other... or are they providing you with a warning that they will bring the "trick" if you don't bring the "treat?" No matter what the interpretation, it's an undeniable fact that with Klondike, there are no tricks - just delicious treats that make every gathering just a little bit better! Klondike offers 12 varieties of classic chocolatey coated and ice cream loaded stickless bars, which are available nationwide - meaning there's a treat for all the boils and ghouls!
I do love seafood, and when it comes to going out for such a dish, there's only one place that comes to mind: Red Lobster. I think many will agree with me that one of the best times to visit Red Lobster is during their "Endless Shrimp" promotion, and that's happening right now, for a limited time. This time around, there's five fantastic shrimp dishes to choose from, and they're being joined by two new Craft Cocktails that pair perfectly for a deliciously-grownup treat. In fact, I tried both during my birthday dinner last night!
The Power of The Force is everywhere. In fact, The Force Awakens in surprising places everyday, the latest of which is the produce section of your local retailer. Disney Consumer Products (DCP) just dropped the curtain on healthy STAR WARS branded fruit and veggie offerings to celebrate the addition of Lucasfilm to The Walt Disney Company’s Healthy Living Commitment. Just in time for the December release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, families can enjoy Star Wars-themed bagged apples by Sage, citrus fruit by Dayka Hackett, carrots by Kern Ridge and grapes with Yoda-themed packaging by Four Star, which all meet nutritional guidelines put in place by The Walt Disney Company.
When it comes to deliciously-demonic munchies and sinfully-sweet snacks, there's no better time of year than Fall to get my supernatural groove on. I'm a huge fan of General Mills' Monster Cereals - so much that I've written about them every Halloween for nearly a decade, with at least six posts appearing right here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. When Count Chocula®, Boo Berry® and Franken Berry® emerge from their Crypt, it's cause for celebration - a true throwback to my own childhood growing up in the late 70s/early 80s! The difference is that now I'm enjoying them with a family of my own, and my love of these cereals goes beyond breakfast. They can be used as fun snacks, and sometimes it's totally acceptable to play with your food... or just the box it came in.
When the September 4th #ForceFriday onslaught of new product tie-ins to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS arrived, the offerings went far beyond the realm of the usual toys and games. For nearly four decades, the STAR WARS name has been emblazoned upon countless items in practically every category one can think of, and in recent years, housewares has been a big one. In our kitchen here at Rock Father HQ you can find THE STAR WARS COOKBOOK: WOOKIEE COOKIES AND OTHER GALACTIC RECIPES, an R2-D2 Measuring Cup Set, C-3PO mugs, and even small cups for the kids. With a new movie comes the opportunity for some new styles, and the folks at Tervis are delivering just that with a new collection of their signature Hot/Cold Tumblers, each bearing imagery from THE FORCE AWAKENS.

A couple of weeks back, I gave you a look at our first days of making the switch to Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind Dog Food for our "Senior" (still feels weird to say that) dogs. While we've switched both of our dogs to Bright Mind (available at PetSmart) I've been focusing on Harry, and if the food could live up to its promise of visible changes in his behavior "within 30 days." Since the glucose metabolism in a dog's brain is said to begin changing around age seven, and that the change can have effects on memory, learning, awareness and decision making - I was skeptical about the inclusion of "enhanced botanical oils" being "shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness" in older dogs. After all, Harry is 13-ish.
